Steampunk (What a Beautiful) series (Celernaria/ Inganock/ Sharnoth/ Valusia etc.)

ugh, 1st timer questioning, what title should i start with when getting on What a beautiful series, was getting into steampunk books recently, hope that's it not a bother

If you want some good story telling and writing right off the bat, I recommend starting on Inganock, then proceed to Sharnoth and Sona-nyl.

But if you want to walk into this series without getting too confused, then starts with Celenaria.
Celenaria is not very good compare to the rest, but it intriduce a lot of the basics of the series as it is the very first game.

I don't mind the whole story telling since i never read any in the series before. If anything; reading Celenaria 1st might make me hold better light since reading good storytelling might make me expect too much.

TBH; i knew of the series long before but only recently that i acquired taste with Steampunk and Ctulhu. Now that we are on the topic why is most steampunk series associate with Ctulhu mythos anyway ???

So I assume you want to read the whole series than?
In that case doing it chronologically is a good idea.
There is also Vslusia that's after Sharnoth and Ghakthun after Sona-yl.

But Vslusia is a weak entry like Celenaria. Hope these two won't discourage you.

Sharnoth, Valusia and Sona-Nyl are the most Lovecraftian ones



Valusia is better than Celenaria BTW (IMO)

yeah, trying to tackle the whole series, i have a lot of time in my hand since i wait for class to actually open.

So i should read in order that they are released ??? and thanks for the opinion guys

Yes, read it in order if you want to do the whole series.

But how is your Japanese skill?
Because only Ghakthun has officially translated games. Everything else are fan trans only, and their quality is left to be desired.
I recommend reading them in Japanese if you can.

N2, tentatively. I need to use dictionary if i want to read novel though, consider steampunk genre, yeah, 100% sure that i'm going to use one if i were to read it in JP

And i thought the fan translated was quite good ????? i heard positive thing from some of the forum about the fan translated patch

I only looked into the Inganock patch myself.

On a scale of 10, I say it is at best 7 or 6?

It's not that bad. The plot is far more complicated than the language

I will try it out then, to be honest, i kinda want to avoid reading the JP version, I still remember that nightmare called Dies irae, which i have to let a dictionary sit by my side, and i actually need to check for grammar.

Generally, i'm pretty sure any books on sci-fi, steampunk genre require me to check on the net for terms, so I generally prefer the EN version over JP, but consider shmaster said, i probably should try out the original with my rusty JP skill

This series is far easier to read than Dies irae. I'd actually consider Steampunk to be far more accessible for some not yet used to read fiction in Japanese.

Also, is it the same length as other titles? I've got it in my PC but I have yet to play it.

Shorter than Gahkthun, but still long enough.
But the story is more about telling an alternate version of history, rather than providing any resolution to what is going on.
