So I've completed the Beserk OVA a while ago, is this animation series a continuation from that or another reboot? Cheers.

Heh, for one moment I thought Farness decided to cut off her nipples because it was decreed by religion or something, had to go and read the manga just to confirm.

Odd censorship but I suppose we'll have to get used to it.

On top of the ill-advised visuals and often misplaced music, Shin Itagaki's directing is awful. Like a less fortunate Parasyte.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking that. The decision to add flashbacks at random times is unfortunate and breaks the immersion. Whatever immersion is even possible when an anime looks this horrible. Even the sound direction is bad. There's really nothing to save about this show. I don't think I'll be able to stand this for much longer, it's a complete insult to the original work.

Episode 2 was so weird. Almost made no sense.

Was that hard to make the first arc before Golden Age? Would have been so much better than this.

coz it's a filler and 0 relevant to the main story? focusing on the tower arc is the correct decision imo

For the original story in the episode 03, we're getting the swine apostle from the chapter 93 it seems:

The constant slips to 2D are jarring at best, but even the way he cuts action sequences is hard to follow. You spend more time looking at the back of characters heads with dizzying wanky camera movements to boot.

I hesitated to mention Yoshikazu Iwanami's sound design. He's made some strange choices lately. He's also working on Thunderbolt Fantasy and JoJo's and has this oddly compressed explosive sound bouncing between all of these shows. Not to mention Guts' sword sounds like a hollow lump of metal.

It's insulting. There really is no better way to describe it.

No shit, the flashbacks in this episode is almost as bad as SEED Destiny.

Just found out about an old news from the AX 2016 on twitter:

The interesting part is that the Lost children chapter might be animated one day and that they're working only on 12 episodes right now. The german website listed the anime with 24 episodes before. If it's true then the anime might be a split-cour.

Also, the editor of Berserk made the volume 1 to 14 available for free until the anime's end: http://www.hakusensha-e.net/0624bercam
The message is pretty clear: "Read the manga."

It wasn't filler, Blackswordsman explained the basics of parts of the world of Berserk and gave you a much clearer portrayal of Guts's mindset, as well as some of the themes of Berserk. But yes, they had to get to Conviction quickly enough, especially if they're only working on 12 episodes. Anyway, judging from Dragonria's post+the behind the scenes special, that stuff might be explained in ep.3 anyway.

On top of Hakusensha releasing volumes 1-14 for free, Young Animal's also releasing the original manga material the anime's covering as supplementary material, so yeah, they want viewers to check the manga to fill in the blanks.

EDIT: Oh wow, they're moving that guy's appearance to this original episode? I figured he'd be in a flashback or something. Which means no backstory of Guts's weapons I guess.

This is episode was fine, yes the artwork is different... so what? The story is still entertaining. This is after all Berserk, which to many (including me) is among the best series in the entire manga universe. I am glad to finally get to watch a new animated saga. I would love it, if it were to run at least to the Troll arc, which was my favorite.
