UCLA Student Gets Tased by UCPD Officers

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP_M8s0GFEc&eurl=

Haven't posted for a long time, but this little video caught my attention.

So what are your takes on it? I personally thought the first taze was enough, but continually tazing the person, who in the end turned out to be a student, from what i could tell up to about 4-5 times, was excessive use of force, bordering on police brutality, especially the threat amde to bystanding students when they asked for their badge and identification that they'll be tased too if they don't back off.

The movie are quite a pain to watch, seems too real to be a just a movie (mostly likely from a phone). Now i never did catch why he was being arrested. Plus it's rather hard to stand up after being zapped a couple of times. (gotta read the article for the other opinion now). I still can't tell after read the article, whether he was being disobident by arguing against the CSOs and officers or something else. There's more proof against him than with him, so at the moment from the information i've read. It's pretty much all his fault.

Rather disturbing article and video, I hear a lot of 'only america' flying around, though this could have happened here as well. Oh wait, it can't, no cops in the school patrolling over here

Woman Faces Fines for Wreath Peace Sign

DENVER (AP) - A homeowners association in southwestern Colorado has threatened to fine a resident $25 a day until she removes a Christmas wreath with a peace sign that some say is an anti-Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan.

Some residents who have complained have children serving in Iraq, said Bob Kearns, president of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association in Pagosa Springs. He said some residents have also believed it was a symbol of Satan. Three or four residents complained, he said.

"Somebody could put up signs that say drop bombs on Iraq. If you let one go up you have to let them all go up," he said in a telephone interview Sunday.

I thought they already did this research? I heard about the whole, "Women speak 20,000 words a day..." thing a long time ago. The research I heard of also suggested that both men and women get tired of talking when they reach their word count.

Great thing that works for grandmothers and mothers too. I'm living example.

Holy crap, my word-limit a day would be about 200, I'd guess. Most of the time I don't get away from the everyday "I'm hungry" and "Shut up you both".

Japanese government to use anime, manga to take over world

http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/national...12TDY02001.htm

Quote:
An advisory panel to Foreign Minister Taro Aso that was established to improve cooperation and understanding between Japan and other countries has drawn up a report proposing the use of Japanese pop culture, including comics and anime, as a diplomatic tool, sources said Saturday.

According to the report by the Council on the Movement of People Across Borders, Japanese pop culture has become enormously popular with young people overseas.

The report goes on to say that to help related industries expand their business opportunities abroad, it is important that cultural events in other countries are properly promoted, and that the government urge foreign leaders to take adequate measures against pirated products.

The council also proposed the establishment of a so-called ambassador of anime culture--a person who would introduce contemporary Japanese artwork to other countries--as well as a Japan comic award targeting overseas cartoonists. It also called for the creation of a pop culture study group consisting of ministries, agencies and industries related to the field.

During the Liberal Democratic Party's presidential election in September, Aso said the dissemination of pop culture was one of the country's great hidden strengths.
Speculate away...

I don't think that the above statement should be news to anyone. My grandmother used to yell that at me over 8 years ago, when Anime wasn't even NEAR what it has become today throughout the world. So, yeah, I grew up with a love for anime, and also the knowledge that it could be used against me at some point. However, I think that the Otaku population will stabilize itself from here on - people are growing up and leaving the anime-scene for the most part to take care of their lives, and young children are growing up and picking up the love for japanese animation. It's a cycle. Of course there're people who're bound ( like me, and hundreds of thousands of others ) to not put a halt to their anime fanaticism as they grow older, but I still think it's a small group.

damn socialists... I don't need someone telling me what I can and can't eat. Why don't we just ban sugar? I'm sure that would stop obeisity. oh and while we're at it let's make 1 hour of exersize per day manditory for everyone. And since people are already doing exersize for an hour, let's have them do something productive like forced labor!
