Haru can't seem to get rid of her temper.
New episode was loads of fun ^^ It's always interesting to see different types of heralds. On the other hand it was kinda sad they were without humans with Sight. They were also quite annoying, but that's probably 'cause they're brats. Well, all is well with the world again ^^

Well now - that was a curious ep to be sure. Not bad, just somehow unexpected, and I am not sure why I feel it was so!
Thus far the first three eps of the series focused on Gintaro and Makoto (who is becoming more and more adorable to me in a quiet way, somehow), and eps 4-6 focused on Haru and Satoru. This ep combined with the preview for next week seems to focus on the "secondary chara" around Makoto, almost using their screentime and circumstances to continue weaving the tale. The answer to the shrines and temples questions was shown this week (in ep 7) and answered satisfactorily in my opinion too. But there was something amidst (or maybe even beneath?) the slapstickish antics of the new herald pair that showed up in this episode that was somehow very... umm... serious and even a little sad. The innocence and childlikeness (expressed in praiseworthy and in annoying ways) of the monkey heralds was almost like a poetic illustration and commentary of sorts on the... let's see... unique combination of Buddhism and Shintoism that make the religious default background in Japan that has existed for centuries. For me Gintaro's summary at the end is a perfect humorous commentary on the combination that I could easily identify with in an emotional reactive kinda way: "The gods of Japan are an irresponsible bunch." Personal opinions aside, though, this was another great ep, and I am very curious to see what next week will bring too. Oh and I hope that something happens to help Yumi learn a little sensitivity and curb her fiery proneness to pick a fight at the drop of a hat.

The monkey heralds were such brats. It made me appreciate Haru all the more. She's a kid as well but at least she doesn't behave that way.
The episode did a good job highlighting the differences between shrines and temples. It made sense for the heralds to be uncomfortable with funerals since shinto doesn't deal with death. The two religions are complementary, which is rare. You don't really have to choose one or the other.

But then again their respective mentors, while both wise (what a great VA the old monkey herald had, eh?) passed on different things. And somehow I also got the feeling that the monkey heralds were older chronology wise, though much younger maturity wise. I wonder how the old monkey herald passed away?

This and the last episode I just skimmed through... I just find it so boring! And this was my favorite of the season in the beginning... I think the problem is Makoto doesn't do anything/have actual powers/a goal/whatever... She just walks around and talks to hideously designed messenger spirits. There's no gods around, there's no youkai, no ghosts, no problems beyond the incredibly insipid...
Satoru is a boring potential romantic interest. Character development seems to be on hold... meh. There's just no hooks to keep me interested. And it's not like I dislike slice of life stories either... this one is just boring. |

My impression so far of this series: Nothing really happens, but in a good way.
Which isn't a half bad thing, actually. No overarching story, no Big Bad needing defeating, just life as it flows. Basically, Drive, drive, drive your TOG, Slowly up the hill; Sluggishly, sluggishly, sluggishly, sluggishly Life is but a crawl. Wait... that's not quite right.

Haru is still too fucking adorable. I want plushies of her and Kon from Tokyo Ravens if it happens! Gin too!
Otherwise, the monkey kids were cute but bratty. I liked how after all of that with Makoto asking them to stop playing pranks they're both like, 'LOLNope.'

Seeing Haru cry is too heart breaking haha. Good thing it only lasts a few seconds before she's back on her feet and angry as ever
Satoru was more likable this episode, my last comment was me mentioning how he wasn't growing on me but I think it's just a slow process
