OK. I was (and still am, realistically) expecting this to essentially be Free! meets Haikyu!!, but it did earn serious brownie points early on by showing that Minato doesn't just leap out of bed after a six month coma, but spends four more months in hospital, goes home walking on a crutch, and has months more physio before going to high-school.
That's a nice level of realism you don't often see. |

^ Yeah, totally. It's good that they had him actually grind and spend time studying to get into school. Younger sister Asumi is a great character. Parents are pretty down to earth, and the crash itself was something that could easily have happened to anyone given those conditions. Also, to add to the drama, we see Asumi have nightmares of the crash, so there's something that I hope they explore and develop.
Humor is ok. On point for most of the time, but I'm not really liking the annoying kohai trying to persuade him to join the waterpolo club. So "Re-main" is basically like an offside? Anyways, what an ending. That part was definitely anime cliche! Last edited by magnumcyclonex; 2021-07-03 at 14:34. |

Better than I expected. They are going a different route than usual. He is no newbie to the sport but he has been made back into a newbie due to the traumatic amnesia suffered that wiped out his memory of his middle school days, including his championship water polo days then. The ending is pure anime but it is just the start for him and us in relearning who he was pre-coma.

I liked how they are trying to show realism not just with him but also his family. While he has forgotten the rules and lost muscle mass I hope once he is in the water he won't miraculously still be a great player due to the body's muscle memory. I hope he has to train to be good again.

I liked the scenes with the family a lot better than the ones at the school, which were painfully unfunny. And the kouhai is incredibly annoying. But the premise has something to it, so we'll see where this goes.
I just wish it wasn't MAPPA.

Because they're a black company and the worst example of unethical business practices and animator abuse in the industry.
Also, their non-priority projects (as this is surely one) are highly susceptible to catastrophic production collapse because of the above.

Episode 3 delayed due to the British Open Golf Championship, apparently.
A waste of a good walk, as someone once said. (Has there ever been a golf anime? If not, I guess it's only a matter of time) I'm still on the fence about this one, because I do really like that they showed the MC have to do a lengthy rehabilitation process, that part seemed pretty realistic. I like that in the second episode he didn't just magically get all his memory back as soon as he jumped in the pool, or show prowess through some kind of 'muscle memory' But other than that it's pretty generic. Guess I'll wait until to next week to see whether I'm dropping it or not! |

There has been, but not for decades. There are a few fairly popular golf manga, mostly seinen. With Matsuyama winning The Masters maybe one of them will finally get an adaptation, like King Golf.
