"Next", in this case, referred to chapter 395, which is next week's chapter. It's, according to what n0m@n read/told us, going to be 31 pages long and close out the story. Chapter 394, which is the chapter that came out, is this week's chapter, was published but not translated when that talk was being made, and can thus be considered the "current" chapter for that conversation.
So, yeah, the next chapter, 395, looks to be the final one. |

Dang, I wanted to comment on the chapter earlier, but I was super busy this week.... oh well.
Anyway, this was a rather heart-warming chapter. I like how we were reintroduced to most of the more notable ingredients from throughout the series (imagine my.... surprise when even the Surprise Apple was brought back! ). It was also nice to see Midora having an emotional reunion with his family. Anyway, just one last chapter to go.... |

And so, the series has ended..... but on quite an interesting note, I'd say (at least we got an explanation of what the "farthest lands" are, for instance). Still, even if it's over, I don't think it's out of the question for Shimabukuro to do a few special chapters in the near future that focus on Toriko's space adventures (and while a "sequel" series would be nice, I'm not gonna hold my breath on that happening.... not anytime soon, anyway). Anyhoo, it was a fun ride while it lasted!

Honestly, I'm glad. Not that the series ended, but that he didn't try to one-up that last arc. And he would have had to one-up it, that's how stories like this go. We get enough information at the end that, while he couldn't continue the story, he can do the occasional side story/chapter based on getting an interesting ingredient, say something akin to the Surprise Apple, but we aren't going to get any "world destroying" stories continuing after this. In other words, the author ended the story at the most appropriate time for the story itself, instead of doing at DBZ where the story's forced to make one additional arc after another despite the fact that the Author wanting it to end three arcs ago, and thus having to one-up his previous over-the-top, overpowered villain.

Time for some galactic destroyer cooking skills! Toriko will have to face off against Galactus to see who gets Komatsu as their combo
Well, this was most certainly a fun ride. If only the last two arcs had been slower, or without so much information, this would have been an ever better manga. Still, it remained true to its cooking spirit all the way to the end - Toriko fishing with giant insect bait is exactly what makes this manga what it is. |
