Because of his own reaction to the possibility of Kirino having a boyfriend (=> I got this from another post in a previous thread, not sure if it is true...) Kyousuke wasn't sure if he should go out with KN. So Kirino and Manami basically pushed him into doing so.

Stuff happens...

KN breaks up with Kyousuke, Kyousuke consults Kirino, who consoles her brother. KN's goal was to get the siblings on better terms with each other. Upon hearing this story, Kyousuke tells her that he can't go out with KN at present but she cuts him off(?). But...the volume still ends with everyone getting along well...

So basically we're back where we started... that's kinda disappointing. I'm real curious about the reason for their break up. The author seems to like to troll, the end of Vol 7 could have been a very drastic shift in the story, but instead was played off.

From what I've been able to gather, it is more complicated than a "break up"... more like she's put things on "hold" til he works things out with Kirino. But yeah.... the author does seem to get a kick out of torturing the readers.

They visit each other's house since apparently that's what you do when you're in a relationship. There is boob touching and bath hopping. Classy.

It's clear that watching the two dating is painful for Kirino
On the way back from watching some fireworks, Kuroneko dumps Kyousuke, then promptly transfers out of highschool (though this part is b/c of her dad's work)
Kyousuke goes to Kirino for (life) counseling
Kirino gives him a big hug
Kuroneko gets Kirino to express her feelings in front of Kyousuke (how?)
Kirino tells Kyousuke her true feelings
Kyousuke to Kuroneko: Right now we still can't be together (b/c it's hard to reconcile with Kuroneko when he understands Kirino's feelings)

I think he's still pretty cool. The spoilers suggest that he really wasn't quite as dense as some Kirino shippers were claiming after vol. 7. But then stuff happened...

You never know. According to the newest set of spoilers I'm reading on the Chinese light novel website so far, Kuroneko is NOT out of the picture. It's more of a PSP-Ayase-normal-end-like development. She is not actually transferring, anyhow.

Thats very unlikely because I doubt pretty much the publisher house (and the regulations through laws) will allow that kind of development. Hello Ishihara!

The reactions were kinda expected, although some of them exagerated. Sure Kuroneko's popularity has spiked in the past months (the anime definitely had a lot to do) and now this. I'm sure it wasn't in the author's original plans to let her become this popular (even though he is cashing on it; spin-off manga??)
The reason I started reading this novel was because of Kirino, and I still believe that Fushimi's true intention was to go for her, the name of the novel says it all. I know that many fans have changed sides after 7 volumes and the anime, but to me it was clearly all about Kirino from the begining, and I hope it continues that way (as long as some of the spoilers and what has been said are true).
Anyway it seems that this volume will have some essential development but not enough to make clear who the winner will be. If the 10th volume will be the last then he'd better move overseas or hire security as soon as pages of volume 9 are leaked, I'm getting worried about the Kuroneko fans .
