Looking for Serious Sci Fi suggestions.

Hey there, I'm a big fan of space opera Sci Fi anime, and I've recently watched LOGH, Tytania, Terra e, all of the good UC Gundams and Macrosses. Although I wouldn't really class them as space opera, I love stuff like Cowboy Bebop and Planetes as well. I've kinda run out of stuff to watch and would love any suggestions. Thanks!

Have you watched Seikai no Monshou, Seikai no Senki, and Seikai no Senki II?

Musekinin Kanchou Tylor is pretty good, though not exactly serious.

Then there's always Top o Nerae! and Top o Nerae! 2

Not sure if it fits or not, but what about "The Third: The Girl With the Blue Eyes" (talk about a mouthful) ? I believe it takes place on earth, but there was a space-y element to it iirc.

World Destruction probably fits too.

While not too serious, To Love-Ru has some of the elements you may like. Bit heavy (ok, pretty heavy actually) on fanservice though.

You should probably also look at Code Geass. Great series, bit of a sci-fi feel to it (mechs) with a good story. No real space portions though.

Stratos4 may also be worth a look. Can't remember the serious level, but it certainly has some sci-fi and stuff happening in/from space.

Are you counting Mecha as Sci-fi? If not then I suggest Eve no Jikan. It's pretty much like I Robot (the book, not the film) and other Isaac Asimov books.

While I know I'm not the TC, I don't see why you wouldn't count Mecha as sci-fi. Even though there have been some mech-style suits made, they don't work at all like in the anime series and such. So it's not a stretch to call them sci-fi IMO.

I would definitely check out Stellvia of the Universe. Straight-up sci-fi and pretty good overall, though there's too much crying from the main character for my taste.

Thank you so much for your suggestions, I've seen Outlaw and a good bit of leiji matsumoto's stuff (IMHO some of the best art to come from anime). I've tried crest of the stars on a few occasions, but I can't get past the character designs. I'll have to give it another go. Eve no Jikan sounds pretty cool, I like Asimov a lot.

I dont know why no one has mentioned Ghost in the Shell, this is a great sci fi, and a good punky feel to it. The films are good and the seasons are even better.

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Season 1 Definitely one to go for.

Spoiler for View on GitS:

I think its a good watch even if its a little bit off your list. Watched it many times

While it's not set in outer space, Noein is an excellent, mind-bending story based on anomalies in quantum physics.

oh my god you all fail

Starship Operators.

Edit: The Third is more post-apocalypse with elements of Eastern mysticism. Closer to Star Wars-style sci-fantasy than actual "hard" sci-fi i.e. Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke.

Edit #2: For a more Western suggestion, the animated adaptation of Dead Space was pretty awesome. Don't forget Aeon Flux, either--the original animation aired on MTV, not the horrible movie with Charlize Theron.

Edit #3: Summer Wars and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

If anyone is still looking for Sci-fi then I'll recommend Casshern Sins and second recent Madhouse films such as Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Paprika.

I just noticed that.

Edit: LMAO, negrepped for suggesting Summer Wars.

The "fail" comment was for nobody recommending Starship Operators, BTW, which is widely considered one of the "hardest" space opera anime ever released.

This is all I have to say.
