Since I couldn't help myself and read some spoilers for this season (atleast as far as the LN go, assuming they will be largely the same), I guess I'll be posting in here.
As much as I really enjoy this show, I am baffled. Spoiler for shana:

There was a teaser on Nico Nico, which showed a snippet of how they'll manage with the explanation.

The only thing we need to know is that Yuji has been hiding something from everyone, and from everyone I mean everyone, including us viewers. And that is his hidden conversations with the Snake of the Festival.
But honestly, I'd like to know the exact events from the novels.

Right, I guess that adds some value depending on the depth of the conversations.
It's so strange because after watching season 2 and seeing them completely backtrack on all the relationship development (which thoroughly pissed me off), I couldn't possibly imagine the 3rd season being harder to watch, but it looks like it might be. Actually with the way that the 2nd season really haphazardly just kind of ended (no "i love you" from shana --- come on) I guess I'm not that surprised. I'm excited though. |

Snake of Festival has been talking to Yuji on dreams all this time. I don't know all the conversations, but one of them is when Yuji doesn't know if leaving Misaki with Shana or staying. There he is questioned by a dark shadow that asks him 'What do you really want to do, Sakai Yuji?' then he wakes up.

^ It's clear that it is in the novels only.

@KiRa
It's the Vol. 8 prologue. The center topic is actually if Sakai can or can't do anything to avoid all this Tomogara vs Flame Hazes battle, to which the shadow (Snake of Festival) answers that they can't do anything and that he is powerless. This kinda depress Yuji before he wakes up. http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/in...lume8_Prologue

It would have been nice for J.C. Staff to give some hints on Yuji's development. So when he makes this appearance in season 3, people wont just easily say "wow this development is awkward..."

But wasn't this part of the novel still on writting process when Season II came out? I'm too lazy to check all the dates, but I think that the Season II ended before the author introduce Snake and the last plot.

Well, that's true that the novels was still in the writing when Season 2 was airing hence the need for some fillers. But the dreams were in volume 8, so they could have given some short 10-20 seconds to spare for them. That voice all together was anonymous to the novel readers, so they couldn't really tell who was talking to Yuji at the time.

Neither they knew if Yuji was actually speaking with someone or if it was a nightmare/dream or a reflect of his hidden feelings. It was all too confusing to risk themself to expose something that could be meaningless, in fact I think that the little prologue is actually the only conversation on the whole volume, so yeah, if you don't know that Snake is the one speaking, then you may not pay attention to that.
