I've given this pork bowl situation quite a bit of thought. Its weird how my feelings are contradictory. It's definitely something I've been dreading (especially since they make Pork Bowl so playful and cute), but I would be more disappointed if somehow they didn't go through with it. It would be like taking one step backwards from all the personal growth and development that makes this show what it is.

You don't be disappointed. I think the first season will conclude with the adaptation of chapter 29, which coincide with the conclusion of the Summer Arc. So we got the Spring and Summer (for a total of about 29 chapters) arc for the first season. Autumn arc has 32 chapters and is self contain enough for the second season.

The manga is currently on Winter arc, and we're 22 chapters into it.

I love that where other mangas have their arcs named after enemies, places, or challenges to overcome, this one has... seasons

. Truly reflects the contemplative nature of this manga.

I have to amend my statement a bit. The anime moved up the summer specials (2 chapters) to before the summer break instead of after. This move is a bit better for the flow of the story. In this case, the total chapters adapted is 31 instead of just 29. Still it makes sense that they'll do the entire Autumn chapters for season 2.

I'm not sure if they're going to do the 2 special chapters in between Autumn and Winter that deals with Hachiken's ancestors. It really doesn't fit in anywhere in terms of tone for the second season.

At least, that's what I got from Baka Tes. And you have to admit, at least they don't result in pregnancies.

Well that wasn't easy. In Hachiken's position not sure what I would have gone with. Still they avoided an easy but less realistic way out of just buying Pork Bowl alive and keeping him as a pet or something. No point to going through all that uncertainty and difficulty if he could just keep him around and avoid the issue. Actually eating him puts some closure on the situation. Still had to be hard as hell to do all of that.

The misunderstanding with Yoshino was fun. Nice for her to get a rare bit of focus. Of course thanks to Tokiwa a great misunderstanding was spread everywhere. Maybe best that it was kept as a misunderstanding since obviously Hachiken is interested in Mikage so no point in throwing in some love triangle and making things more complicated. Cute character though.

Definitely a good episode overall. RIP Pork Bowl.

Dop Mmmm.... Join Date: Sep 2006	Spoiler for episode 10: I had wondered if Hachiken would buy Pork Bowl in the end, but as meat. What I really liked about this episode was that while it was an emotional scene, it wasn't overwrought, sappy or too sentimental. Just the right amount of sadness and emotional impact as Pork Bowl is loaded onto the wagon for the abbatoir, and returned as cuts of meat in a box, some of which Hachiken prepared for smoking into Bacon. The way it was handled was pretty perfect, in my view. Did like the misunderstanding at the beginning, and the way it didn't blow out of proportion and the joke didn't outstay its leave. Is it terribly wrong that I could really go for a bacon sandwich right now?

No river of tears, sad music and the likes, and yet you could easily tell Hachiken was feeling sad and perhaps melancholic. Very tasteful. Hachiken handled this in a very adult manner, he's clearly grown a lot. Personally, I don't know what I would have done. I doubt I would be able to eat an animal I loved. The misunderstanding at the beginning of the episode was pretty fun and hinted Mikage has feelings for Hachiken. I wonder if anything will happen between those two. Hachiken has a point when he says they don't have time for romance in this school. Next week is the final episode already orz... Thankfully, there's a second season coming. __________________
