It makes a certain sense. Not only is Watamote more in-line with manga readers than anime buyers in Japan (where the manga is likewise a pretty strong seller) but the American anime fan is much more likely to be receptive to the themes than a Japanese person in the BD/DVD purchasing demos.

In fact the manga has been so popular in scanlation that the Yen Press edition comes with a thank you note from the authors to everyone who's already read the series. It's even accompanied by a picture of Tomoko eating spaghetti (her nickname on 4chan being Spaghetti-tan).

Seeing that it's doing really well in the international market, hope it will boost the probability of getting a second season.
And with that I think Watamote already established it's name in the international anime community... Just what I've heard from NHK channel's features of this show, the fact is that this is widely appreciated in the intl anime community... so that list is a proof of that.
