Its based on a manga thats serialized in the shounen manga magazine Shounen GanGan.
For now there are 7 volumes released of this manga, and volume 8 will be released this month (March 2006), here are the covers:

The first episode wasn't bad. The animation quality is back down to First Season level (having peaked with Season Two). All the reguar cast is back along with a few new characters. Ep 1 was pretty much the "set-up" episode for the season.

Hmm, I never knew that there's a 4th season? It seems that the 4th one is spanning only 2 eps. It looks like a continuation of where the 3rd one left off

I have the first DVD. ADV did a great job with it as I knew they would.

Valkryie is soooo CUTE! Kanshaku's great at character designs because they can do bishoujo AND bishounen!

I don't know why this show gets such a bad rep. I think it's cute. *pouts* So there's bouncy fanservice in it. So freakin what? It's not like it's the most perverted thing ever. I've seen far worse.
