The Expanse

Quote:
Two hundred years in the future, in a fully colonized solar system, police detective Josephus Miller is given the assignment to find a missing young woman, Julie Mao. Joining his task is James Holden, former first officer of an ice freighter who is involved in an incident caused by the tense relationship between Earth, Mars and the Belt. Far from their struggles in space, United Nations executive Chrisjen Avasarala works to prevent war between Earth and Mars. Soon the three find out that the missing woman is connected to a vast conspiracy that threatens all humanity.
Lots of people in my twitter were basically in love with this show simply for the fact that it's hard scifi with a proper budget on television. I feel like I haven't seen something like it since the Galactica remake jumped the shark.

I'm not a big fan of the gritty scifi that's became the norm following BSG but this has been pretty good so far. There's a believable setting not too far into the future and it's particularly low on technobable and big on mystery with a heavy noir influence. If I had to compare it with something it would be Blade Runner and I think it really deserves the comparison so far.

So yeah, anyone else watching this?

I've been keeping my eye on this series, might have to jump in now that it's started.

I'm not really clicking with any of the characters, maybe I should try harder.
Writing hasn't grabbed me yet either, but I'll give it a bit more rope for now.

I've been write engaged with the series so far. Decent character work, strong pacing, great effects and some wonderful world building all add up to a fun and exciting series.

pretty great show. they've done a good job at setting everything up in the first few episodes. the characters are interesting and contrasting enough to keep my attention, and the scope of the story leaves me wondering how everything is connected.

It's awesome. The minus part is some characters speech is hard to understand.

BTW, Shohreh Aghdashloo has one amazing voice.

Episodes 1-2 were a bit boring. Episode 4 was nice. But episode 5 got back into boring territory. I'll give it a chance a little longer but I'm not sure.

Well, you've already seen half the series, so you might as well just finish it and then move on .

well, we kind of knew that. when we were first introduced to her, she forced her way out of the holding cell. then we saw an infected thing and she screamed. odds of her making it out unscathed are pretty low.

Lot's of unanswered questions at the finale.

Good thing there seems to be a second season. Dunno when exactly. 2017 is kinda vague

Now that the finale has come and gone I hope that the second season can shine some light on what the martians are doing since we didn't get much from them aside from the Donnager early on.

this episode was amazing. the director did a really job putting what was written into stellar visuals. the climatic scene was beautifully done. music and visuals blended together perfectly.

all this talk about the series not having a distributor better end soon. amazon seems to be deep in talks about it, but my god, they finally got to the more awesome parts of the story!

I'd love to discuss part 7 but goddamn soft cover edition always gets released several months after hard cover for some reason.

So I just binged it up to the latest aired episode, season 3 episode 10, and in my opinion this is the best Mass Effect tv series ever. This series has definitely become one of my favorite sci fi shows I have ever seen.

Best sci-fi show I have come across, was recommended by a fellow member of Animesuki and this show never disappointed in any episode. Was great to see the show get a lot of support from their fans and of Amazon picking it up for season 4. I cannot wait for more

I'm wondering if they are going back to try and do 1 book per season, or will they keep up the pace the last half of the season and try 2 books per season? I'm not sure if it's the best strategy to try and end the series in 3 more seasons, or make it last for another 5 or 6.
