George Zimmerman arrested (again) for pointing a shotgun at his (new) girlfriend

Yeah, it is too bad he never got any jail time whatsoever. I really doubt his innocence in the Trayvon Martin case.

I would say than he is a living argument for both side of the gun control debate.

He's a cunt, nothing short of that.

I hope he gets time in the slammer soon. Can't stand that nuisance of a man.

One would think the dude would try to lay low after that fiasco, but perhaps now he's feeling he can get away with things instead.

If he ever goes to prison, he is probably gonna die. I don't want this to sound racist, but a lot of black prisoners would kill him if they had the chance.

Wasn't there an article few weeks ago where US is breaking down, as in smashing to pieces, about a billion dollar worth of electronic equipment? The idea is that these pieces don't fall into the enemy hands so they can't make IED or just use them for surveillance. Apparently, the pile already looked like a mountain and ever growing.

Today is the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Google has three multimedia projects about the address on its "Cultural Institute" site: http://www.google.com/culturalinstit...ilter=exhibits

The phrase "under God" in the closing line of the oration does not appear in the early drafts but was added by Lincoln in a copy written some months after the Address was delivered. The fourth, "Bliss Copy," includes the phrase and is displayed in the Lincoln Bedroom at the White House. It is the one most commonly heard today. Here you can hear Sam Waterston's rendition as part of Ken Burns's The Civil War documentary.

Waterston portrayed Lincoln throughout the series. The man with the beard and Southern accent is novelist and historian Shelby Foote who authored a three-volume history of the War. While not on Burns's initial list of consultants, he was interviewed later and ended up appearing on-screen for about an hour of the eleven-hour work. He became an instant hit, and his book sales skyrocketed.

That's one of my favorite documentaries regarding the history of the United States. I also own (and highly recommend) the companion book, "An Illustrated History," which is full of some really amazing photos from the period.

In the Disaster Zone, Marine V-22s Finally Deliver on Tiltrotor Promise:

"A week after Typhoon Haiyan devastated the central Philippines, 14 V-22 Osprey
tilt rotor aircraft are flying disaster relief missions in the most affected parts of the
country. They survey damage and deliver supplies to stricken areas and bring
people out.

Part plane, part helicopter, the Osprey is proving to be the ideal aircraft for disaster
relief in areas lacking infrastructure."

US Senate Abolishes Filibuster for Presidential Appointments

The rules change eliminates the 60-vote supermajority for appointees, but leaves it in place for ordinary legislation. The Democrats finally decided to take what has been called the "nuclear option" after the Republicans again refused to allow a vote on the President's three appointments to the DC Court of Appeals. This is the second most important Federal Court and has direct jurisdiction over decisions by Federal regulatory agencies. Until May of this year, four of the eleven seats were vacant. Republicans allowed the eminently qualified Sri Srinivasan to fill the eighth seat but balked at letting the President fill the remaining seats and thus move the Court to the left. The Senate's decision ensures that these appointments will now go through. The DC Court is also a common source of Supreme Court Justices; four of the current Justices served on the DC Circuit.

Opposition was so intense because these are lifetime appointments. The effects of today's decision on the filibuster, and the appointments it will now permit, will influence public policy for decades to come.

So far the change to the filibuster only extends to appointees, but at least it represents progress on what the federal government can accomplish.

It's not entirely good news, as the filibuster does exist for a good reason. Obama is too much of a centrist to ever appoint someone truly inappropriate, but there is a danger of a future president being less circumspect. And the U.S. may end up with someone awful like John Bolton as a future Secretary of State. Perhaps the U.S. will decide that it's high time to revamp its political system and to ditch the more antiquated parts of it.

Maybe, if they lose the senate, which isn't likely to happen soon, plus they are a bit more responsible than the current GOP

BTW, the GOP tried to deploy it in 2004 but ended up changing their mind.
