I didn't dislike tv series Ranka, but she wasn't among my favorites. Movie Ranka, though she ranks pretty high next or with Sheryl so far. I think it's closer to what she should have grown to be like in a few years or what they could have wanted her to be like but the development less to be desired (it resonated wrong to me at times?). She acts more around the emotional age of the other two (and doesn't dresses on those baby pajamas, thank God), so it makes the triangle more realistic to me?

Alto's personality also changed. He seems less clueless and dense than in the TV series. His implied gender issues and flying vs kabuki love/hate dilemma triangle are also more addressed rather than be left as tacit to infer.

So, a question to Yot-Chan: How was the costume design of the movie?

In the promotional artworks, we got this shift where Sheryl was portrayed as a battle-maiden, with battle-standard and in uniform, while Ranka was somehow relegated to "magical girl". Which seemed a bit baffling to me, not on the Sheryl front, but on the side of Ranka, who had benefitted so much from a personality upgrade in the first movie.

Did the costume designs reflect the character developments in the second movie, or were they apart from them?

It's too bad that Narnia decided to open on the same week as Macross Frontier... or else it would have gotten the 3rd spot.

As mentioned last week, not a lot of notable Japanese release this week, except for the second Macross F movie, “Macross Frontier: The Wings of Goodbye” (Anime). Unfortunately, the space opera wasn’t able to join “GANTZ” and “Oba: The Last Samurai” in the top 3, because the new Narnia film, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader“, simply attracted too many families during one of the first mild weekends this year.

Oh well, Gantz live action film is still at 2nd. I'm quite happy about it. Ninomiya Kazunari and Matsuyama Kenichi... my fav Japanese actors. Sweeet.
