This was really fun. The comedy for the most part was spot on for me and i had a smile the whole episode, mainly because Andou is probably one of the best comedy MCs's this whole season. I'll keep watching.

Ep 01
Holy smokes. Well, the ep in general was not bad. Not great but not bad and pleasant enough, I guess. The super powered folks are really SUPER powered. Chifuyu (the loli) is basically Molecule Man. Tomoyo (the time controller) and Hatoko (the element controller - I just loovvveeee Hayami Saori's voice) are crazy powerful, and Sayumi (the ojou-sama blackbelts wielder) has a power that could be super dangerous. For example, what if she restored someone to a state before they acquired powers? Scary. It essentially looks like "light entertainment", which is good as far as it goes, I guess. I will give it a few more eps.

Good comedy. I loved irony of Chuuni getting actual super power out of blue and I loved even more find he is only one whose power is totaly useless
There is supposed be rom-com element, I am quite currious how that will be handled.

For those looking for another "kill la kill" you need to remember this isn't really a Trigger show. Trigger is NOT the producer. They are hired by the production committee to animate the screenplay they were given that is based upon the light novel. Of course, Trigger didn't write that light novel, so your expectations of Trigger humor and story approach won't be realized. For that, you need Trigger as the producer.
As others have said, Trigger is just a hireling for this show. It keeps Triggers' employees busy with work, allows the new studio to build up some resources for its next true production effort, and probably adds experience to any fledgling animator staff it contracted. Studios that implement the animation don't always make the character designs. Key animation is sometimes by a wholly different source than the animation studio creating the animation. That is why you see in credits a separation between key animation and in-between animation staff.

I think you may be reading too much into her power. I believe she is the "cleric" or "white mage" of the party. Her power heals, repairs, and removes unwanted status-effects (such as Andou being soaking wet), but doesn't alter the fundamental nature of the person or object she's using it on.

Or Andou could volunteer to be hit by a bus and see if she can heal him.

The problem is that they have done this six times and he is still saying "I don't know if this is the best way to test her power, but it will have to do for now." Had he applied some tought to the situation he could have come up with a number of better ways to test her power, rather than just standing around saying "We don't know much about it. Is there a better way to test it? I don't know." But he'd rather spend his time coming up with ridiculous names for their powers and acting like an idiot.

Nothing special, but the silliness was funny enough.
Talk about an awkward situation for the male lead though. In one respect he's pretty darn unlucky since his power is pretty well useless. Despite the fact that he would be the one most excited about getting powers and put the most time into it. Thus surrounded by people who are pure hax . And yet he's basically in a harem. Maybe it balances out somehow . And I kind of interpreted Andou not being sure that fixing clothing was the best test of Sayumi's power as him as the test Sayumi selected for herself not being the best. While they do kind of turn to him in some respects, she is still the club leader.

The best compliment I can offer to Inou is that it's inoffensive, which is a heck lot better than what I thought I'd be getting. The comedy is hit-and-miss, and I hugely dislike the fact that there's going to be some conspiracy plot, but it is sufficiently entertaining on some basic level, like last season's Rokujouma; plus it's an actually cool assortment of powers that they have.
And I did like that one part where Hatoko and Chifuyu got carried away during the battle (because really, anyone would get carried away if they had superpowers like that.) |

Oh great another one of those "Main Character is useless while everyone else especially the loli is super OP and just insult the guy at every turn" kind of anime. Kinda dissapointing really.
I'll give it a try but if there is no pay off for the MC sooner or later than I might just drop this no matter if it's a Trigger anime or not. Is it so difficult to make an anime where the power scale is even across the board? This kind of comedy is really tiresome, it's always either one end of the spectrum or the other never inbetween. So far not impressed, did chuckle at a few parts but not as I said not impressed.

It happens quite often, in fact. It is simply not this kind of anime. That's one of the jokes of the series: the boy who was crazy chuuniboyou about having supernatural powers ended up with something worthless, while the girls who couldn't have cared less ended up with world-breaking superpowers.

I also liked the first episode. It wasn't amazing, but it was funny. I feel like the plot will become more interesting later on and soon enough, so I'll continue watching. It's also a show Trigger selected to animate, so I have my high hopes. I also want to point out for all of those Trigger haters that there was NO fanservice in this episode. That only existed in Kill la Kill because it was the point. |
