Johannes walked through the empty halls of the Asura towards the quarters the Liese twins were using, his arms carrying the few books he had been using to research the Belkan style of magic. Over the past six months, he had been able to find his personal magic aptitude, which happened to render Midchildan magic nearly useless to him. No one on the ship practiced Belkan, so all he could do was study the bit of theory he could acquire.

He approached the door, shifted the books to free a hand, and knocked on the door. After waiting a minute, he knocked again, with no response.

“Those two are normally up at this time, they're probably off talking with Gil.” Johannes turned and made his way to the larger quarters the Naval Advisor had, thankful for the lack of people from it nearing 'nighttime' according to the ship's timetable, but stopped at the door to faintly hear a heated argument through the door. He looked both ways down the hall before pressing his ear to the door.

“You're talking about damning a child!” The voice of Aria was clearly furious, which was in itself a shock, as the maddest Johannes had ever seen her was something akin to a saddened mother.

“Aria, we've been over this, we don't have any other options. This is the safest course of action we have. The Arc-en-ciel simply knocks it out for a while, and we can't find out where the reincarnation core is when it's sleeping.” Graham sounded deeply saddened, as if he had accepted to commit a lesser evil to prevent a greater one from happening.

“No more burying friends. No creating another Chrono.” The sounds of sniffling made Johannes wonder who the third voice was for a moment, until he realized it was Lotte.

Curiosity piqued, Johannes stood up straight and knocked on the door, and the door was opened shortly after by Graham, who looked like hell. “How can I help you at this hour, Hans?”

“I just wanted to return the books I borrowed off Aria, and couldn't help but hear your . . . conversation. Is there a way I could help?”

Graham frowned, but motioned for Johannes to enter the room before closing the door behind him and casting a spell to acoustically seal it. Graham turned to Johannes and bluntly asked, “How much did you hear?”

“Just bits about something being resistant to the most powerful weapon the TSAB has, and a reincarnation core. Enough to research more on my own if needed,” Johannes replied, his standard neutral face hiding any emotion he may have had.

Graham sighed. “I might as well explain it then, no point in you wrecking my work. Sit.” He motioned to his office, the front room of his quarters. Lotte was curled up in the corner of one couch, Aria was pacing along its length as Graham took a seat on the other couch and Johannes sat on the floor at the end of the table between the two couches. The twins simply nodded to Johannes, minds working on whatever problem they had been discussing.

... the more I re-read that short with Olivie and Ixy, the more I realize that it turned me into an instant fan of Ixy. >.<

*cough* KoE is currently on hiatus due to lack of ideas and other priorities. I'm working on a original story (Prologue is out, gimme a VM if you'd like a link) and a few Wallachia shorts. One of those shorts should be out as soon as they come back from beta.

Those shorts will discover Wallachia more and, even if she is a spinoff from KoE, everything that happens in the short counts into KoE.

Seriously, Belka was the most powerful empire in many many worlds and yet they couldn't afford to fix the leaking roof of their ruler's castle, for that matter the sheer fact their ruler lived in a castle was weird enough. Surely the nation that could build advanced starships could bring the building into the current millennium. Storms always bombarded the castle. The floors were riddled with puddles, the halls became howling corridors that sounded like dragons had moved in and the shutters threatened to fly off into nothingness. It was not fun for a young Kaiser. The howling and the thunder ensured she couldn't get any sleep and on top of that it was freezing and she couldn't even get warm. Olivier was not a happy Kaiser. BAM! The window shutter smacked open, thudding against the wall. Rain rushed in like an army that had broken down a barricade. Damn it, the Kaiser threw off her sheets and what loose protection they offered from the wind and cold. Clad only in her nightgown, Olivier attacked the shutter as if it had done her personal insult. She smashed it back into its place and when it dared to open again she forced it back and back again. How dare the window not bend to the will of the Kaiser! “...Okay now I'm just being ridiculous,” she rubbed her forehead and fell back onto her bed, surely sleep would come... eventually. She just had to close her eyes and slowly... let herself... drift... into... sleep... BOOM! “EEP!” “...” Olivier pondered. The boom made sense, the boom was what thunder tended to sound like. But since when did thunder squeal like a little girl? … If it wasn't thunder then it had to be... The Kaiser leaned over the side of her bed. There, curled up into a pitiful little ball of orange, was what could only be the visiting king, Ixpellia. “You really are a little kid aren't you?” This was the king who, hours before, had rudely told Olivier that she was a good hundred years older then the Kaiser. Olivier wouldn't have believed Ixpellia had her own advisor not confirmed the kid's claim. “I'm... not afraid,” the ball trembled. Right, not afraid, that was just soooo believable. “If you're scared you'd be better off just saying it,” Olivier poked Ixpellia's side, trying to prod her into uncurling. “Kings don't get afraid.” Definitely a little kid. Why else would she be spouting such nonsense? “So I can't be... afraid,” A pair of green eyes poked out of hiding. “If you deny your fear, there's no way you can get over it,” Olivier sighed, “So just come out and admit you're afraid... okay?” She tried to think of something more to say but it was hard to give an inspirational speech on such sort notice and with so little sleep. “... he he he.” ...Giggling? “I'm sorry,” she hid her smile under her arms, “It's just hard to take you seriously when you're in pajamas.” “...Tch,” Olivier hid her own blush in a pillow, “You totally didn't listen to what I was trying to tell you.” BOOM! In the second the thunder went off Ixpellia disappeared. In returned something clamped around Olivier's waist, gripping tight enough to cut her in two. “Can't... breath...” “I'm afraid, I'm afraid so please don't make me leave.” “...Ha?” Olivier barely could comprehend how she was now being burrowed into like she was a giant Kaiser shaped pillow. “T-This has to be some kind of crime!” Like illegally hugging the Kaiser or something! “Ennn,” Ixpellia let out a little moan at the next rumble of thunder, from the sound of it, it was getting further away. … okay the kid was pretty cute. But Olivier couldn't bear spend the whole night like that, “Ixy, you don't have to let go but at least loosen up.” “...Ixy?” “Ixpellia's a pain to say, so just bare the name, okay?” “mmkay...” And as time passed Ixpellia fell into a peaceful, happy slumber. … But the Kaiser didn't, because Ixpellia never. Let. Go. “I'm gonna break!” Spoiler for Extra special bonus: "Hmm? You spent the night with her majesty?" That was enough to make Kaon look up from her book. "Why would you happen to pick that room of all of them?" "Well I was," Ix fidgeted, "I was looking for your room but I panicked..." An eyebrow was raised, "Why would you look for my room? I hardly think I'm anymore help during a thunderstorm." Ix blushed, "You promised, back then..." "If you're ever scared, just come to me." Sparkle. "I promise to take care of you, All night long." Killer smile. "...The first part sounds familiar but I do not recall the last part. I do believe you are mistaken." Ixpellia was later found in a corner of the castle crying and muttering something about an idiot adviser. Something Tempest said is to blame for the bonus. Page Claim: For IXY!
