Try kousetsu hyaku monogatari. It is quite trippy, and graphics seem a bit oldish. Doesnt start too horror like, but takes up on it after some epis.

If you like manga, any Junji Ito story will do. As for anime, Higurashi and Boogiepop are my obvious choices. Jigoku Shoujo is good, but it can get a little weak from time to time.
Mermaid's Saga is not so much scary but gory, it's still good. Petite Cosette might do it, but I found it hard to follow and understand. Shikabane Hime is a new series, I've only read the manga but so far so good. Pet Shop of Horrors is amazing but it's only three OVAs, the manga is a lot longer and already has a sequel. Akira, yes it's a movie (and an old one at that) but it's gory, wtf and really eerie. Really graphic people-go-boom scenes.
Blood: The Last Vampire, also a movie but a nice one. It might be a little confusing but it's def worth a watch. Much creature slashing in this one. Hitsuji no Uta: A really eerie psychological kind of horror OVA. Has a really nice atmosphere. Kara no Kyoukai movies are very very nice. Mysterious, very interesting and kinda scary. (Some scene settings reminded me very much Silent Hill hehe) Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust - very beautiful art, touching story and very nice atmosphere. Vampire Princess Miyu - It's a bit confusing but also nice. I would say it's something similar to Boogiepop and Lain. It plays with your mind :3 As a side note, MPD Psycho is a very nice and gory horror Manga. |
