The stories of Hiro, Miyako, Kei, and Kyousuke (though their story wasn't covered) were from the first tale, and Renji and Chihiro and from the latter tale.
Mizuki, Kuze, Nagi (Hiro's sister), Yu, and Yuko are all in the latter tale and will probably be the focus of melodies.

And yes, I'm quite Mizuki's story starts out with something rather... bad.

Knowing what I do about Yu and Yuuko's story (I alternate romanisations.), I think it'll be the high point of the Fall season, as Renji and Chihiro's was of tlast Fall.

To think I didn´t see this thread until now. I can´t wait to see more of ef. Memories being one of my absolute favourite anime´s doesn´t make my expectations for a second season any smaller. So to say.

im pretty sure based on what i saw in the trailer the second season will revolve around mizuke and kuze with some other characters added that havent been seen in season one. as far as my expectations i go, i dont really know what to expect but if its anything like season 1 it will be the next titanic

It will be revolving around the Mizuki-Kuze story, the Yu-Yuki story, some stuff with Nagi (who looks much better in the anime), and possibly (but don't get your hopes up) the Kei-Kyousuke story.
However, I'm quite sure that the story between Kei and Kyousuke is just a tsundere story where she gradually warms up to him, so I doubt it will be included.

I think the important thing about ef ~a tale of memories~ was that it wasn't directed by Shinbou, but by Oonuma Shin. Shinbou is certainly there in the background, Oonuma's mentor, but I think Oonuma did a great job with ~a tale of memories~ and good jobs with the Negima specials. I think memories was Shinbou done better than Shinbou has ever done.

I visited the official website and I was swooped in by the music (I tried to save it haha)...

Does anyone know if it will have the old characters from season one? Or focus on the "other relationships" taking place in the ef world? Does it continue from season one at all?

It'll focus on a set of characters from the first season, the background characters, though i'm pretty sure we'll see cameo appearances from the first seasons main cast.

Haha, good point. Gives me a major feeling of Déjà vu. Back then, I thought ef was going to be the up and coming competition to Clannad and a year later, we're repeating things. I hope ef has more tricks up its sleeve than the more conventional shows and it's going to be interesting.

No, Kuze is the only one who plays an instrument in the game. But technically "Memories" only relates to the Chihiro story in the first ef anime, so what's the difference here? Just because the keyword literally springs from a single character doesn't mean it can't have thematical significance for the others.

That would be the second visual novel game that is part of the ~ef games. The first game was ~ef the first tale, which had Hiro and Miyako as well as Kei and Kyosuke. The latter tale features Chihiro and Renji as well as another couple that I think they will go into more detail in tale of melodies.

Point is, ~ef the first tale and ~ef the latter tale are two visual novels, and tale of memories and tale of melodies are the anime adaptation to the two visual novels.
