Of course, they both have tails, but aparently almost all the male characters of their race have tails too, not just the womens. Check for instance Episode 2, when they were reconstructing the altar.
Not only those with fluffy ears - like Eruruu, but those with elf-like ears like Oboro or Oyaji can have small tails, hidden inside the panties. Even Benawi has a tail, too.

As for the voice, like someone else said, it's a common practice female seiyus give voice to very young male characters.

But the REAL problem is: They're both gays!! That's why they were trying jewely in episode 06!

OKAY! First, there's this part on the game:


Hakuoro steps outside and is greeted by Oboro. Hakuoro asks him if he's become accustomed to staying there, and Oboro laughs and says "I'm me, I don't change no matter where I go."
Hakuoro chuckles and asks about the others, especially the twin girls, wanting to know if they are taking care there. Oboro looks at him confused and says "Twin girls? What twin girls?" Hakuoro says Dorii and Guraa, and Oboro tells him that he is mistaken. Hakuoro asks "Mistaken?" and then Dorii and Guraa show up, and say they are ready to do their escort. Oboro says they've come at a good time.

Oboro then tells Hakuoro that they are men. Hakuoro says "What?" and Oboro tells him that honestly, they are men. He's quiet for a moment and then looks shocked and tells Oboro that he must be joking, and Oboro asks him why he would joke over a matter like that. Hakuoro repeats "Men..." and Dorii says that yes, they are men, and Guraa asks if he would like to confirm it. Hakuoro questions "Confirm it?" and Guraa says yes, and Dorii says by all means if he wishes it, to remove their clothes. He looks shocked and they say that if he is reluctant, they can help him. He starts stuttering no, feeling a blush on his cheeks,
and they say "We see" and he notices they look disappointed. He tells them he is sorry he had mistaken them as girls, and they say it is okay. Oboro tells them that they should be going, and they bid farewell to Hakuoro and the three of them leave.

After they are gone, Hakuoro is still in shock over how the twins are men, and he really did want to have it confirmed just a little... Eruruu then shows up behind him and asks just what he wanted to confirm. He says "Well, those two..." and then trails off, realizing she is there, and jumps, asking just how long she's been there. She laughs and asks if he likes boys, and it's fine, even if he has unusual tastes, she doesn't mind. He protests that is not the case, and she sweatdrops, saying it really is okay. He protests again that it isn't so. She then says "A man's male companions..." and then starts blushing profusely. Hakuoro says "Eruruu?" and she blushes and quickly says she has laundry to do and runs off. Defeated, Hakuoro falls to the ground, saying "I'm not like that..."

Poor Hakuoro. Not only was shocked for discover the truth, but the twins tried to make a move on him! Even Eruruu thought maybe he likes young boys...

Sometimes too much Charisma is not really a good thing.

One day, when Oboro was drunk/unconscious they told to Hakuoro "don't worry hakuoro-san we'll take GOOD care of him" and they took him away.
In the next morning Oboro commented to Hakuoro on how they were sleeping in his room naked and that his body felt funny...

Poor, poor Oboro.

It makes me think that this segment would be ideal to animate it into an omake short for the Utawarerumono DVD specials.

It seams that this question about the gender of the twins is everywhere on internet!!
I read most of the propositions, and i look trought all episodes to find a clue.

As an artist, i looked at it from the drawing style point of view.
Yes, the big eyes are more often used for women and young kids, but i found some exceptions.

But if you watch again the episodes, you will see that what make you distinguish male and female, its a trick we usually use in drawing.
we made the low eyelashes more visible for the female, for animals, human or other species.

So for me the twins are female in the serie.

I don't follow with the way you put it.

Anyway, when people put forth the arguement that they might be female because of the nature of how the character designer made them (it is common to many female anime characters), in this case, once again, it is worth noting that the way these characters are protrayed in the anime is very accurate to how they are protrayed in the game.

i just compared how they made the difference in this specific anim, and if you forget the breast, the lower eyelashes is the only one!

young girls and young boys can easily found in peasants.

this is a reflex for an artist when you want to avoid confusion.

but you r right, maybe thats what they wanted to make! lol

Hmm, I still don't quite understand what you infer by "lower eyelash", but if you are saying their eyes are drawn in a style that is common for female anime characters, that is true, my point is just that that aspect of their appearances seems to carry over from the game (so maybe you at least get what I'm saying ).

Twin archers serving under Oboro. They are very androgynous, and as such their sex is difficult to ascertain, even by other characters. Some controversy surrounds their true gender, but most evidence is extremely speculative. It should be noted that in the game, they identify themselves as male.
There are several ways to tell them apart. For one, Dori has purple eyes while Gura's are blue. Also, the bottom part of Dori's clothes are blue while with Gura they are red.

He must be refering to the doujin above, which I didnt find particularly tasteful. In anycase, with regard to lower eyelashes, I really dont think I see any lower eyelashes. gardien perhaps you'll like to show us how?

Firstly, thats based on the game, so it really doesnt count. Secondly, never bet your life on a wiki.

ah that...i find it very tasteful as well...makes me think of the 2 brothers from bleach and various other animes that show 2 muscular siblings
and it also dreads me to think how oboro is tortured at night XD
