or madara simply is madara, and having had his plan for years and years he decided to be funny and choose "tobi" aka tentails as his alter-ego... would be just like his "I'm so superior attitude" XD

Actually, no - "to-bi" reading is incorrect. Kanji usually have two readings, sino-japanese and native japanese. You can't use both kinds of readings in one compound, and when it comes to compounds, you usually use sino-japanese reading. Ten is 十, it's readings are respecitvely "juu" and "to/tou". Tail is 尾, readings "bi" and "o". So you read 十尾 (ten-tail) as "juu-bi". Technically, you could read it as "to-o" but no Japanese will pronounce it like that. But "to-bi" is no-no.

I can see tobi being his son, or maybe a brother/friend of madara's but I dont think they'd readily give their lives to save madara, more likely madara stole their body.

Latest manga developement suggests Madara uses some kind of replacement body made partially from Hashirama's cells, maybe partially original too. And that he is a "shell of his former self" may mean he has to use large part of his chakra to supress Hashirama's powers, or else he would go "tree-mode" like Danzo when he ran out of energy.

During his battle with Fuu and Torune,
He didn't really have any problems to cut his arm.
And it clearly shown that his arm returned when W-Zetsu call him to help Sasuke.

During his battle with Konan,
Konan forced him to use Izanagi, when he realized that his body will be destroyed.

It looks like, he use some kind of body that is be able to replaced every missing part but his own life.

well, by that logic the jyuubi is also a shell of his/her former self..

One pet theory I have with Tobi's identity that I haven't seen before is that he's Madara's younger brother. Namely - his story about plucking out his younger brother's eyes is BS, and that the younger brother in fact took Madara's eyes, and then his identity.

I don't see that it would have any bearing on the plot even if this were true.

Really his pronunciation of the character names/and the like is annoying but his Madara pronouncement is just pissing me off.

I think Kabuto brought either Tobi's (Madara)_ lil brother back to life with edo tensei or maybe he summoned the real Madara. If my 2nd assumption is right, Tobi is afraid ppl will find out he is not the real Madara. If my first assumption is right, he just owes Kabuto a favor. I think he is Obito btw.
