^Yeah, that's the impression I have, as well. Oda already confirmed that Shiki exists in the manga canon when Sengoku mentioned him being the first person in history to escape from Impel Down. Furthermore, Oda even said in a recent SBS that he was originally going to have Shanks mention Shiki during his conversation with Whitebeard back in chapter 434, but changed his mind at the last minute.....



Anyway, since I'm pretty sure that chapter 0 will tie in with the manga in a pretty significant way, I've decided to make a separate thread for it when it comes out this week (thanks for the suggestion, james0246! ). You folks can use that thread to debate Shiki's strength to your heart's content.

Chapter 0
Story takes place back when Roger, Gold Lion Shiki, Sengoku and Garp were in their prime, and Roger was captured.
Back then Roger and Shiki were rivals. Hearing that Roger was captured, Shiki could not believe someone he considered his rival would be captured by the marines, and decided to find out the truth by inflitrating Impel Down himself.
But Gold Lion was captured. He cuts his own legs off to escape.
Back then, Sengoku was an Admiral, and the top was Fleet Admiral Kong.

Hmm, that must be one hell of an epic finisher, then. Still, so far it looks like we pretty much have confirmation that chapter/volume 0 are canon to the manga, but movie 10 will not be. It's still a shame that it'll probably be a good while before most of us will be able to see the movie ourselves.....

What does this even mean? Oda went to such lengths to set up a plot, a chapter and new character designs for this and people are still saying the movie is not canon?? Its downright bizzare.

Also that song is ok i guess, Only the chorus really sounds out plus its too long.

It just means that if you miss this movie and you are manga viewer you wont really notice any diffrence. You just miss excellent and entertaining story and you have more limited view of One Piece world and its charecters...

Some posters here have attidute ''If its not canon then its worthless''.

I would think that kind of attidute would be justivable if it would consider previous movies that Oda had nothing to do with them.

I have here in this spoiler tag, info from Anime News Network on the 56th volume of One Piece. The info being bolded is news involving Movie 10.

The Japanese publisher Shueisha is producing 2.85 million copies of the 56th volume of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga — the largest print run that any Japanese manga has ever had in its first printing. The volume will ship on December 4. Since the manga began in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1997, Shueisha has printed 176 million copies. The previous volume, volume 55, sold 1,487,845 copies in its first week and 1,720,884 copies in the first five weeks.

Viz Media publishes the manga in North America, and Funimation is releasing the television anime adaptation on DVD and via online streaming. The 10th theatrical anime film, One Piece Film Strong World, will open in Japan on December 2.

Update: Oda confirmed last Saturday in an Asahi Shimbun article that he had planned to end the series in five years and has had the image of the final chapter established in his mind for a long time. However, creating the episodes that lead to that ending has taken longer than he had anticipated. In the manga's 13th year, he would like to say that he is 9/10ths of the way towards the end, but he acknowledged that he is only halfway there.

The movie 10 project is really big, they've got an entire chapter dedicated to it, plus an anime special, and they've even got Oda writing the script. This is truly an anniversary movie.

Shiki seems like he could be the fourth Yonkou. Anyhow, he is a super pirate. Hot damn, two swords for peg legs. That's like double the pirate power and he's a samurai on top of that. Ninjas beware!

Is this movie going to be the Romance Dawn for a future canon arc or it going to be One Piece's Dead Zone (DBZ's only canon movie).

Why does Shiki kidnap Nami? To lure the rest into a trap, to get revenge over that Beetle? Will we get, "Nami, I'm your father! Join men and we can rule the seas!"

Shiki is an unsual villain for such a movie. Most of the "what if" villains are rarely mentioned in a canon series or made to appear as such major parts of the mythos.

If he exists in Canon and this movie isn't canon, will he show up in the main series?

It seems to me that all signs point to this being canon, the only kink in this has to do with when the events take place.

Yep, Oda's said several times throughout the years that he's still passionate about his work, so I believe it's safe to say that he won't be retiring anytime soon.




Anyway, Greg at AP forums gave a pretty detailed review of the movie. It definitely sounds like great stuff. Shiki looks to be just as badass as he was in chapter 0 and Dr. Indigo is turning out to be one of my favorite characters as well, judging from how Greg described him (he actually makes farting sounds when he walks! ). Anyways, as for what Shiki's grand plans are (big spoilers ahead):

He simply wants to get revenge against Gold Roger by raising an army of mutant animals (whom he and Dr. Indigo evolved with these plants called "IQ plants", which they turned into a formula called "SIQ"), which will be used to destroy East Blue. Afterwards, he intends to conquer the world. Eh.... I was expecting something a little more over the top myself, but I guess that's all Oda could do for the story due to the movie's time constraints. But it DOES make his defeat all the more symbolic (since it's a kid from East Blue who defeats him, after all. ).


Now about Shiki's DF power: He can basically make anything that's not a living being fly (which would mean that he himself can't fly. If you ask me, that makes his escape from Impel Down all the MORE amazing.....). I think I already mentioned how Shiki was defeated before so I won't elaborate on that. But one interesting thing to point out is that the first one to actually land a hit on Shiki is none other than...... Chopper! My goodness, did that surprise me when I read it.....

Also, about the whole deal with Nami leaving the crew (again, pretty big spoilers ahead):

Looks like Shiki kidnaps Nami twice. First at the beginning of the movie and again when she tries to escape from him later on. He wants her because he simply wants her as his navigator (she was able to predict the weather more accurately than the weather team he had aboard his crew). When she gets kidnapped the second time, he pretty much forces her to join him since he would have killed Luffy and co. otherwise. He then allows her to leave a message for her "old" crew on a Tone Dial, which is basically her saying that she'll ditch them for Shiki. When Luffy listens to it, he gets so pissed that he destroys a hill, but he misses Nami's last sentence due to his rage. Nami remains defiant towards Shiki the whole time she's with him, so he pretty much decides to kill her in the end, anyway. After the crew finally succeeds in rescuing Nami, Luffy is angry with her at first for her betrayal, but she asks him if he listened to the entire message she left behind. When he's about to listen, Nami decides that it's better for him to not hear it and she tries to take the dial away from him, which causes it to fall into the ocean. Then we (the audience) hear Nami's final line: "...but come take me back." Well now, isn't that heartwarming?

The movie sounds awesome from what I've learned of it so far. Even if I spoiled myself on the plot, I'd still like to check it out once it becomes available for us foreigners to watch......

I don't think we'll be seeing anything from the movie on the net till it gets its DVD release.

It's illegal to distibute movies online, and it's even riskier to do so if you're secretly recording one in a public theater. (Not to mention the horrible visual and audio qualities.)

So I'd say about half a year before we can get a proper raw and online English subbed version of the movie.
