A new GITS movie is coming in Summer 2015:

The official website for Ghost in the Shell Arise announced on Friday that a new Ghost in the Shell film is in production and is slated to open in theaters in Japan in 2015.

Well, is this going to be something from the manga, or a brand new one? I hope it's the former.

Everything that has ever transpired in a Ghost in the Shell TV series or movie is something that happened in the manga.

And of course, every interpretation will also come with plenty of things that didn't happen in it.

But the GitS franchise has long since gone way beyond the original source, to become part of a much broader social zeitgeist. There are certain features and themes that will continually recur, but always in a slightly different way, with each new creative team bringing something new to the franchise.

To paraphrase the Major herself: "The Net is vast and infinite."

The latest Arise series may not have wowed me the way Stand Alone Complex has, but at least it's trying something new, to show us another version of the Major out of the infinite possibilities in the Net of creativity.

And it hasn't sucked, at least not for me. Granted, it's subjective. So, what's the pet phrase nowadays? Haters will be haters? You get the gist.

I don't mind seeing where this'll go. Been a fan of GITS since my younger days and I'm still proud of it.

i never got around to watching the series though I had the boxset at some point and had to sell it before getting to view it I have seen all the other content and some of arise however which I look forward to seeing more of I've not read the manga is it worth doing so given my exposure to the anime?

I really love the manga, it's a great cyberpunk/techno thrillers serie, i found the second serie (Man Machine interface) weaker.

Kazuchika Kise (Ghost in the Shell Arise chief director) will serve as chief director at Project I.G., and will also design the characters. Tow Ubukata (Ghost in the Shell Arise screenplay) will handle the screenplay, and Cornelius will score the film's music. Kazuya Nomura (Robotics;Notes, Sengoku Basara - Samurai Kings: The Movie director) will serve as director, and Tooru Ookubo (Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex key animation) will take the position of chief animation director. The film will feature the cast from Ghost in the Shell Arise, with voice talents Maaya Sakamoto, Ikkyuu Juku, Kenichirou Matsuda, Tarusuke Shingaki, Shunsuke Sakuya, Takurou Nakakuni, Youji Ueda, Kazuya Nakai, and Miyuki Sawashiro listed, although no character names are attached.

So basically another Arise movie. I guess Japan got tired of the early 00 anime.

Color me excited. Though I fully understand the fans of the manga/SAC who don’t like (or even hate) some elements in Arise, I think it’s a very good addition to the franchise that already had three alternate takes/universes (manga, movie, SAC). And it’s not every year you’ll get a new GITS anime, and there’s not many anime like GITS these days, so I’ll continue to be one of few people who will enjoy Arise entries.
