They matter. Not as much as they used to with streaming income (including overseas) being important, but 6000 copies per volume at $100-200 per volume is still a big fish in the small pond of anime production.

Just means they got all the good, normal revenue streams (streaming, merch, etc) and ALSO hit a massive number of physical disc sales. That's phenomenal.

I'm not sure how much is an okay number but so far Frieren managed to sell more DVDs than the previous mainstream series like Chainsaw Man, Bleach's final arc, among others. Not sure how much did Bocchi the Rock sell (same director after all right?). Still, I think DVDs of other popular IPs were insane as Gundam SEED, Destiny, 00 and Code Geass reached a really ridiculous number back in the 2000s. Probably the topselling bluray from a Mappa anime has to be Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (though it's common that movies sell more)

I just did a marathon for this show. Finished it just now
I can easily say that this indeed is one of the best anime in existence.

It was an amazing series to experience, very comfy and entertaining. And that it sold 6k DVDs in its first couple weeks is amazing, wow. Hopefully we can get a 2nd season by next year or so.

this is so wholesome. Fern taking care of the Frierens, and they take good care of her.

I was in Japan back in November, and anywhere anime-related was pushing Frieren. I also read an issue of Newtype that pushed the show, I think the otaku enjoyed it like us.

Pretty amazing what AI can do. The Ubel one was pretty good.

Not sure I get the compulsion though for people to make real world versions of anime. It's cool, I guess, but I'd rather just watch the anime heh.

Oooof. By this rate in ten years we'll get automatic full conversions of an anime episode into this, or something of the like. I mean, it'd be interesting to see how a full conversion of the battle between Lugner and Linie vs. Fern and Stark would look like "in live", if the speed and viewpoints the anime uses would be preserved.

I was impressed by the Kanne. She looked like a direct port from anime to real life.

Kinda like how crustaceans mostly evolve into crab-like forms, TTI undergoes similar convergence. So people end up like glamour models, and mages are from Harry Potter. The resolution and details are pretty amazing though.
