Seeing how stuff is developing, I haven't read anything past volume 18, but I've been lurking for spoilers, and it seems that there is another shield hero and someone that looks like Atla.
It is also said that the previous shield hero brought his gf back to life by creating a filolial body for her or something like that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with this info we can at least hope that the author is planing on bringing her back?

If i remember right (based on what i heard), while the Shield Hero from hundreds of year back did bring back the girl to life by creating a new species, but she wasn't really the same, aka., her memories and personalities were different. And the girl who was reborn as Filolial was Fitoria.

The Main Story did end a long time ago, but he is writing the Spear Hero Arc in the WN now (the one which also got adapted to LN and Manga).

Well the spinoff is basically for those who wish Motoyasu wasn't an asshole to Naofumi. It's also a chance to see non edgelord Naofumi.

I finally watched the anime adaptation and it seems to be significantly different from the web novel. So, considering that those are most likely things already changed in the LN, I would like to ask someone who read the LN: does Aurora still exist in LN, and is the sad development around her unchanged?

Don’t think I remember any Aurora in the ln. the ln is significantly different from the wn from I’ve heard and the anime better follows the ln.

Which character are you talking about?
Since there were a few characters from the Anime, who didn't have any name in the Novel/Manga, but got a name in the Anime.
