Yes. Wasn't expected this today so was dead chuffed when it popped up on Crunchyroll.
Fridays are now saved for the season. Loved the intro (no OP or ED sequences this episode), which neatly (and hilariously) summarised the story so far before moving on. Marvellous. Shall watch it again after I've caught up on today's other new shows. |

Nothing to see here. Rakugo delivers the goods as expected. Not a standout episode by its standards (which still means it was better than 95% of anime out there) but there was a lot to catch up to so that was predictable. I was a bit sorry that they didn't play any rakugo story in full, but am super-excited at the possibility of seeing Yotaro (yeah, still calling him that XD) interpret newly created ones!

So good, sooooo goooood. This episode increases my need to rewatch the first season again! <3
Now that the past is done and told, we can move on to the present and future of raguko. Writing own stories sounds interesting though ofc the master would see that as "heresy". And I'm glad Anatsu and Yotaro are becoming a family, so adorable and lovely those two are. <3

Oh wow, seeing this show again....it feels like last year's Winter. So happy.
Yotarou is overwhelmingly entertaining to watch every single time he's on TV. Can't wait to see rest of the season.

It's been 1 year and this show still takes my breath away.
Yotarou is fun to watch but he still have more way to go to reach the predecessor Sukeroku's level. And Yakumo's rakugo is still my most favorite. His performance still always makes me glue to the screen.

Episode 1 Yotaro is such a nice guy. He was waiting for us all this time. I like him. Yotaro takes on the Sukeroku name instead of Yakumo and is now a shuinchi. And he wants to do rakugo differently. Yakumo doesn't believe in writing new rakugo stories since he believes it'll corrupt the art. But Yotaro probably believes that people of this time period don't have any interest in listening to century old stories so there should be something new. And with this he'll try to bring rakugo back up. Nice to see the fun Yotaro returning. Looking forward to more. |

Episode 1
Its so damn unfair for the rest of the shows in 2017 that the medium-defining aoty that sets the standard comes out this early in the year. In first five minutes this show already blew every single 2017 premiere out of the water so far. I doubt anything this year will be able to live up to the level of this. The OP will certainly already be in the top five OPs of the year for me for sure. Can't wait to see where the plot goes as the first season felt fairly conclusive on it's own, so I can't help but be intrigued. |

Episode 1:
It's finally back after a year of waiting (and Yotaro's back is aching)! Gotta say that they move the story to the 80s now and Yotaro, now known as Sukeroku, has become a shinúchi. Still, I feel that he'll face more challenges like the association getting vocal of the 3rd Gen Sukeroku not adhering to tradition, as well as taking care of both Konatsu and her child. After all, I don't wanna see rakugo die along with the 8th generation Yakumo Yurakutei. @Harry Dresden The only standard I follow is the Japanese fiscal/academic year system, so the first season of Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu will be placed in the 2015 best anime together with Sound! Euphonium. |

That was a fantastic reintroductory episode. I loved how they had Yotaro do a little recap in rakugo style.
I can't wait to see how the relationship between Yakumo, Konatsu, and Yotaro is going to develop.
