Chise's body will start to decay over the years though, so she might wish for death at some point. Unless she or Elias manage to find a way to solve that, which would also help Joseph. That might become her next goal.

Not a great ending for me. I felt like the "final" confrontation between between Team Chise and Team Joseph could've been more epic and beating Joseph by singing and hugging just felt lame and far too forgiving. But what was even more of a letdown was the complete whitewash of Elias (and Ruths) actions beforehand and its reduction to a mere comedic lovers quarrel. The "talk" happens all off screen which feels like a cop out and Elias apologises to Chise yet no scene is devoted to Elias apologising to the real victim, further underlining the fact that Stella was only ever a character designed in relation to Chise rather than as a real character outright.
Overall, it was a good show with lots of atmosphere but it was really hampered by some meandering storytelling and some not great plot decisions. And I would've preferred the romance between Elias and Chise a lot more if Chise was a young woman rather than a young girl. The story tried to sell Elias as a child deep down but all I could see was a childish old guy. And I don't think portraying them both as children was the kind of depth worth having anyway.

I've been avoiding the last few episodes of the anime as it caught up with the manga and it started feeling rushed since I like this story so much. Going by people's comments I think I'll wait for the manga chapter that details the conclusion to this arc before giving the anime a go.

If you remember when the OVAs came out, I saw them and was blown away in ways I still can't describe. If you're wandering why I'm only talking about the tv episodes now, it's for two reasons: 1, I avoided this thread because I didn't want to be spoiled for anything, and 2, I don't have a premium CR account, and I don't use torrents anymore, so I only finished the anime just now. On with the show!
So when I started the tv version of Ancient Magus Bride, I was like, "Uhhhh, is this the same setting I fell in love with?" The first two episodes were really slow. Not bad; I still like the characters and the production, but it didn't wow me like the OVAs did. They meandered, like some of the later episodes too. Oh, and unlike most people, I don't have a 3 episode rule; I have a 1 episode rule. Call me impatient if you want, but I have no tolerance for bad tv. Luckily, I still liked it if only for the character interactions, but I still think people should encourage the 3 episode rule. Because Chise's flight with the dragon in episode 3 is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life. And I've seen a lot of lush animation throughout my life. It's not easy to impress me like that did. And you know what's crazy? That was only the first of many such scenes! Saturdays became something I looked forward to for about half a year now. (And still will, now that I'll be following the Cardcaptor Sakura reboot) I absolutely love Chise as a protagonist. While her circumstances are unique, I do relate to her to some degree. Without getting into too much detail, I used to suffer from a lot of anguish when I was younger, and anytime I tried to voice my woes, I was met with either indifference or condescension, which only made my depression worse. While those days are (fortunately) behind me, I could feel Chise's growth throughout the show. But it's not just her; nearly every character feels so alive, they and the setting feel so real to me. And I think it's because this series, above all else, tries to tell a good story. Sure, it's beautifully illustrated, has a phenomenal soundtrack, and perfect voice acting (In Japanese, at least; I found the English dub a little disappointing), but aside from some chibi moments of humor (some of which worked, others didn't), it didn't employ gimmicks. Most of the characters weren't stereotypes, the action scenes aren't there to look "badass", all of the scenes that make me go "wow" serve a purpose beyond mesmerizing the audience. But like I said, it's not perfect. Not all of the humor works, sometimes the pacing is too slow (usually, it's perfect), and not all the little details have been resolved or explored. I know the manga is ongoing, so there could still be more. If the anime comes back with a new season, more OVAs, or a movie (or all three), I will definitely return. If not, the last episode was, I think, a great place to stop. Is it the best thing ever? I wouldn't go that far. It really feels more like if Miyazaki ever did a long form anime series than anything else, based on my observations. I will say this though; The Ancient Magus' Bride is my favorite anime of the 2010s. "But! But! Madoka! And! And! Steins;Gate! And the Hunter X Hunter anime by Madhouse! And I still remember your praise of Re:Zero!" I know, I don't say that lightly. I've been let down with a lot of recent anime, but I'm glad I stuck around for this. I think I'll go read the manga, or watch the anime again. It's not often I rewatch a show, after all. |

I'm still on Ep22, but I've been enjoying the ride so far. In this story's case, I'm Anime-only Viewer.
I noticed that, in certain episodes, there are moments the characters do things and talk with each other almost off-screen, as if a few things from the Manga are being skipped. Is it true? Also, despite not having finished the series yet (but planning to do so by today), I'd like to ask about it's pacing, how good was the adaptation. If possible, of course. |

Finally finished reading @Twi's posts, quite informative and I've gotta thank @Twi for such dedication.
Well, I guess I'll follow the Manga from here onwards, starting with checking if Ch45 ends the arc differently from the Anime |
