AnimeSuki 2009 Choice Award Winners
The results are in for the AnimeSuki 2009 Choice Awards. Thanks to everyone who participated in the nominations and the voting.
If you were paying attention to the discussion in the nomination thread, there were some issues and suggestions being discussed. I would say a definite addition for next year from the discussion is a drama category, so everyone can look forward to that. Other changes and options are still open. Feel free to add any discussion or new suggestions in the results thread, but please try to keep it friendly and refrain from flaming winners that you didn't support. There were a couple of really close races, but I verified my count for accuracy. As many of you probably guessed if you looked at the votes, one anime in particularly swept the awards this year. Also, no one answered my request for graphical help, so unfortunately there aren't any fancy banners. The Results Action/Fighting: [38] Kara no Kyoukai [25] Canaan [17] Darker than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini [11] Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ Adventure/Fantasy: [51] Spice and Wolf II [17] Kemono no Souja Erin [16] Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou [8] Tears to Tiara Mecha/SciFi: [38] Eve no Jikan [20] Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Season 2 [16] Casshern Sins [13] Darker than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini Mystery/Horror: [34] Kara no Kyoukai [23] Higashi no Eden [21] Bakemonogatari [17] Umineko no Naku Koro ni Comedy: [24] Bakemonogatari [21] Seitokai no Ichizon [21] Toradora! Kara no Kyoukai deserved those 5 awards too, it has the best animated action scenes, it beats the pants off anything else in it's category for animation, musically its the best thing Kajiura has done in years. The mystery and horror elements were nice and as for the movie cat, Summer Wars is no TokiKake and Eva 2.0 had no chance of beating it in the movie award without a dvd release (hard to vote for something you haven't seen..). Probably also has a better storyline than the ones listed in that cat...
Good to see a niche title like Eve no Jikan win as well, Yasuhiro Yoshiura is seriously talented and probably the most promising "recent" director along with Mamoru Hosada. Also nice too see we avoided some lolz like Geass R2 winning best storyline last year and Stranger not even being in the animation category, Stranger has better animation and action scenes than KnK... Bones delivered in that regard... |

Unfortunately we have even greater lolz in K-On winning best Slice of Life if we want to get into the whole generalizing personal opinion as a universal standard game you seem so fond of with this. I guess you gotta figure somebody had to opinion the floor for that type of discussion.

Seeing Bakemonogatari, and Clannad After Story winning 2 each is enough for me .
Also Congratulation on Furukawa Nagisa on being the best of the worst characters[or would it be worst of the worst ]; also Senjougahara Hitagi, and Okazaki Tomoya for Favorite characters .

Hey in Code Geass R2's case it's winning was balanced out with some seriously epic whining for the ages (especially from the Macross voters, but then that's not too surprising) so I'm curious to see if the same happens for K-On or not since it does seem to inspire a lot of that same sort of awkward hate in people for being popular as it is.

Not exactly what I expected but the choices are agreeable. Except for sports, where One Outs was honestly the best one.
-- Anyway as for suggestion part, I'm only really concern about the categories.

if you allow reverse-trap, and trap than Nagi from Nyan Koi might give some decent completion .

Keep in mind that despite the appearances, running the awards actually takes a lot of time. I think for a category to be added, it needs to have a lot of merit for inclusion. If you want additional character categories, then suggest something like Best Supporting Male and Best Supporting Female and changing the old two to Best Lead Male and Best Lead Female. Something that's broad enough to have a lot of nominees yet won't have the exact same nominees. Yet even that has some issues, since many shows are ensemble casts it's hard to distinguish what is lead and support. In general, I don't really see a need for more character categories than there already are. The awards should be about the shows and much more would be getting very specific.

Im more or less fine with the winner, except Okazaki Tomoya winning best male character because I hate him with passion.

Ended up tipping 13 out of 18 categories, which is what I picked last year, and voted for ten of the winners. I thought it would be Bakemonogatari that would dominate... turned out it was Kara no Kyoukai. Five wins, and two to Eve no Jikan. I was a bit surprised by that.
As far as I'm concerned, the last thing we need is more categories. If anything, we need to be merging them (OVAs and Movies, for example, and canning Worst Character). There's only one category that really needs to be added, IMO, and that's Best Overall Anime.

I don't really feel like Bakemonogatari should win the best Comedy award (seriously?) but the visual one cause it might not have had the best animation (we all know Shaft) it had an amazing art style but that's my opinion as always.
As for the changes I'm all for the Drama category and I guess I'm one of the only few who think all negative votes should be taken out (that means no more Worst Character) because the tendency to troll that awards will always be high and what use is there in giving focus to bad characters? Shouldn't this type of awards serve also as a way to promote series other people might not be familiar with? (I know I found a few) Oh well, overall I can say it went well, my votes coincided with most of the stuff that actually won so I guess I'm in the norm... Thinking about it in hindsight I feel average... sniff sniff... PS: Lets not forget: thank you very much for all your hard work Ansalem.
