Today's match:

Yuno vs Sengoku Nadeko vs Sanzen'in Nagi

Round 3 kicks off today. With another two thirds of the characters dropping out in Round 2, we've really only got stronger characters left. Another two thirds of the competitors are dropping out this round. Only the best of the best are getting out of Round 3. Yuno is a very strong competitor. However, at this point in the game she is simply outclassed. This is going to be a match between Nagi and Nadeko to see who gets to live another round a make a run for the top. Nadeko had a very impressive Round 2. She recived the highest number of votes and it wasn't even close. Hirasawa Yui didn't come close to winning despite receiving over 700 votes. Nadeko actually didn't look to great back in prelims when she failed to beat Azusa and Poplar. She's made it clear that that match doesn't matter and she really is one of the top competitors. Preliminary results not mattering is a probably for Nagi. Nagi didn't face any particularly strong competition in the first two rounds. The only really impressive thing she's done so far in slightly edging out Hitagi in Preliminary Group 8. Well since Nadeko might be stronger than Hitagi, perhaps it's better for Nagi if she isn't only equal to Hitagi in power. Even without any major feats, there is no doubt that Nagi is one of the top remaining characters. Nadeko vs Nagi is going to be a close fight. I was really impressed with Nadeko's Round 2 performance. If she only brings a bit of the power she showed there, she can beat Nagi. I'm going with Nadeko winning.

Vote:
Sengoku Nadeko

Prediction:
Sengoku Nadeko

And now things get really heated up in Saimoe! Voting for Nagi, I hope she upsets Nadeko soon.

And poor Yuno.

This match is going to be good. A nice opener for the rest of block finals, which will all be pretty hardcore.

i wonder if this is going to be a recurring theme where a somewhat popular character gets totally thrown at the bus in these 3 way matches lol

Very much likely. I guess 3-way matches drive the point home that there are different levels of strength.

Not necessarily different levels, but rather different types, I'd say.
My theory is that, there are two main type of top contenders in Saimoe, those with a devoted fanbase, and those that are more generally well-liked. In the old system, the characters without a strong faction stands a fair chance because they can always count on the voters to prefer them over their opponent. But now, in a three-way match, the "generally well-liked" ones become fodder to the ones with devoted fanbase because chances are a lot higher now that while the voters still like them, there's another character in the same match who's higher on the voters' list of priorities. Another thing being, devoted fans will vote for a character no matter what, but the average voter would rather vote for a character with a chance of advancing than their favourite character in the match who has no chance whatsoever.

Agreed on all. Other than group F, it's not really that hard to predict.

this is where the Nanoha and Shana fanbase wins. Five yrs for the Nanoha series and four years for the Shana fanbase and both fanbase can still can still put up good numbers. While other fanbase (school rumble, Mai-hime and Higurashi) decay both the Nanoha and Shana fanbase continue to march on.
