What an amazing way to start a story. It's essentially two characters talking to each other for 18 minutes, but so much is revealed about their personality and basic backgrounds, in a smooth manner like adding pieces to a jigsaw puzzle.

A very strong debut episode, IMO. Quite possibly the best I've seen yet. Long ago, I picked up the 1st volume of the manga when it was released here, but I never bothered to actually read it. I came away from the show with a strong desire to pull out the manga and read more. I am that hooked.

Best debut of the reason and possibly AOTS. Persistent main girl asks main guy out in direct, to the point and concise manner. I ship it.
Actually I was expecting them to animate a tango session of the pair at the end but... oh well. |

A very nice start. Kotoko is a very likable character. I really appreciate her being pretty straight forward and direct. She's sat on her feelings for a couple years. Now that she's got some freedom to take her shot, she's going for it. No reason to be subtle here.
Also I'm liking the dynamic between the leads. Both having their own experience with the supernatural and both coming out of it changed people.

From the look of things. It is doing various short stories first, then save the first big story arc for the anime closure. Which is the opposite order of the manga. Last edited by shmaster; 2020-01-15 at 12:54. |

Double ouch.
Well that does it for me then. As much as I liked the first episode, I'm not interested wasting my time on an inconclusive story. I'm better off just binge-ing it before its continuation (if it gets one) [EDIT] In case anyone is wondering, I've not gone crazy - I was responding to a post that has now been removed, presumably because it was too spoilery.

Fun fact: apparently, novel readers call the MC "Iwanaga", but the manga readers call her "Kotoko-chan". I guess the manga brings her physical cuteness more to the front. Last edited by Anh_Minh; 2020-01-15 at 14:10. |

It's not inconclusive. Think of this as a (super natural) detective story. There are various cases (arcs) but they're mostly auto-conclusive. So the anime will presumingly adapt the main arc from the novel which is finished. You can watch it just fine.

Whelp looks like I'm picking up this manga. That was a deliciously strong start. I can tell that this is the sort of story that lives or dies on its writing and character dynamics, so here's hoping it keeps it up.
Heck the first episode reminded me of Seishun Buta Yarou, only with more blood and gore, and that's a good thing.
