So, we were mistaken on everything about Zen from surface to the bottom.

With that type of overbearing and controlling Mother traumatizing his childhood and interfering with both his physical, mental, and social well-being, then not all parents in the world deserve children.

Kind of makes me to assume that Zen's father abandoned his wife, because he couldn't take her possessive-obssessive personality.

The problem though was that she kept dragging Zen from beyond the grave even after the demented hag passed away, resulting on him manifesting that sickly aura full of burdens, guilt, regrets, and grief without Zen even remotely thinking at possibility to reap a bright future.

But, after learning from Zen's friend, Satoru, Miko couldn't let it slide after all Hana was as well having her health affected.

At great personal risk she confronted the eldtrich nightmare that used to be Zen's mother, and in an unexpected cliffhanger the ghost hag got blasted by the shrine spirits.

So, that means Miko's up to her chances at three, and now what potential horrors will await her in the next episode?

I absolutely love when stories can trick you this way. Mieruko-chan was chock full of surprises. It's gonna be hard to keep my mouth shut during group rewatches.

Episode 12. The Girl Who Sees, Mieruko-chan

It's been quite the long journey for me after all the procrastination I did to get to the end of this show.

Spoiler for The most intense moment...:

To me wasn't the ghost of Zen's mother attempting a last stand on Miko before getting blasted to oblivion by the shrine spirits.

It was already doomed when it mistakenly thought Zen was addressing it that he thought she should get lost. Zen was addressing Miko instead, whom was behind the ghost, but the ghost thought otherwise which grew weaker from listening said those words.

Was nice to witness that with the ghost hag gone for good Zen was able to let go off his guilt, and thus the spirits of the deceased cats got released; even one of them actually licked his hand in appreciation for taking care of them alive.


The most intense moment happen when Miko decided to pay visit at the shrine to thank the spirits that saved her in response to all three chances used up, but uneasiness and sweat stirred up within me to judge that it was a bad idea for her to do so.
And, it just happened that the shrine spirits and the local kami utterly lost their temper seemingly with Miko's behavior and actions, that she was about to be devoured....

But, we as the audience should have felt relieved to learn the whole ordeal was just Miko having a nightmare, right?.

However, what begs the question is if said nightmare was just a coda in order to pull out a narrative twist? or should it be interpreted instead as a bad omen foreshadowing more insane events coming at Miko's way?

It is wishful thinking from my part expecting the kami & spirits at the shrine turning it out the opposite just like we thought of Zen when he was first introduced in the second episode.

The shrine itself bears lots of unexplored mysteries beginning with the unreadable kanji at the gates, which may or not possibly yield a hint on the shrine's background. But for the time being, I will take it as a red flag further complemented by Mitsue reacting to the picture of Miko & Hana at that place.

Overall, I haven't had some good, old-fashioned goosebumps for quite a while, and Mieruko-chan delivers without compromising the frightening and creepy quality of its ghostly cast.
A definite and solid view for me to rewatch this show on this year's Halloween season.

I'm standing-by if a second season for the anime ever materializes due that the season's finale finished on an ominous cliffhanger.
