"Notions, Sundries, and Novelties," Kazuma narrowed his eyes at the deep red sign and breathed out a sigh, "In other words:Junk," He turned to his companion, "Still, we'd better look around and see if we can find anything useful. We're practically naked at this point."

Byaku nodded silently, tightening the jacket around her shoulders. Even through the thick white fabric, he could make out the bits of metal and the slight protrusions on her back. He couldn't tell if she trusted him or not. Still, he supposed it shouldn't bother him. He needed her for the data, nothing more.

Who would've thought he'd find himself partnering up with an IS? And Ichika's old one at that? While he wasn't aware of the process that turned them sentient or...human, he did know that they were still capable of their feats of mass destruction. Byaku was no exception to that, no matter how pacifistic or inexperienced she claimed herself to be.

He didn't like the impromptu partnership, not one bit. It was bad enough that he was here in America completely cut off, now he had to place his trust one someone- No, something that could go berserk and attack him at any minute? If she didn't need to be alive for him to get the data, he would've split off from her long ago.

It really didn't help that the two of them stuck out like sore thumbs. While his black hair wasn't anything too irregular, his red eyes certainly had a ay of marking him. At least the turtleneck and pants he had taken were average in appearance.

Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for Byaku. The dull white hair and electrc blue eyes were vibrant enough, but the albino skin tone she was sporting certainly added a lot of unwanted attention. The fact that she was wearing nothing but a torn dress and an oversized jacket certainly didn't help.

The two of them entered the fancy store and were greeted by the odd sights of various shelves filled to the brim with useless items and memorabilia. Toy trains and fake trophies were the first to greet his eyes, but they certainly weren't the weirdest. Fake gold trophies and fireworks were stuffed into barrels while various books littered the shelves and the floor. There were various others, but he didn't find reason to take note of everything.

Kazuma ignored them all and explored the rest of the small building, coming upon a makeshift bed just a few feet in front of the store entrance,"Looks like some desperate bastard actually called this place home," He knelt down and examined the torn mattress. Beer bottles and various canned foods littered the outer edges of it, but the most odd sight were the open books that littered most of the floor around it.

"And what does that make us?" Byaku asked him with some slight hesitation. She shivered involuntarily when she heard the window creak and the floorboards crack. Even being a WMD had its fears.

Kazuma didn't answer her and continued to explore the shop. He was highly doubtful he'd find anything of use here, but he had to take what he could get. Both he and Byaku had to ditch any weapons and armor in favor of civilian clothes in order not to garner attention to themselves. While Byaku could always summon a weapon at a pinch, there wasn't much the clone could do if he was fired upon without a gun.

He turned to the left slightly and spotted a bunch of toy horses on display. Stepping closer, he found a bottle of Vodka leaning on one of them only slightly opened. While he did feel somewhat thirsty, he had enough sense to see drinking alcohol would be extremely bad right now given their situation.

In front of the display cabinet, he saw another row of novelties, this time filled with fake gold trophies. He had to admit that they looked incredibly realistic, but he wasn't fooled. Gold was a rarity nowadays, especially with the change brought about by the shift.

As he was about to leave the display, Byaku's voice called out to him.

"Kazuma, Kazuma!" Byaku held out one of the smaller trophies, "Gold!" She had a look of pure fascination and excitement on her little 'discovery'.

"Hm, that's Gold like I'm the King of England." He answered sarcastically. Of course he was joking on that: England had no king. Only the title of Queen mattered now, and even then it wasn't through blood anymore. He heard that one of his father's old acquaintances, Cecilia Alcott, was 3rd in line for the throne now.

"Haaa~" Byaku sighed and placed the trophy back into the case. Even if she had the appearance of someone into her late teens, her energy when it came to things she didn't understand made her seem more like a child. An odd thought, considering Kazuma was the one who was chronologically 13 years old. Rapid aging could do wonders for ones appearance.

Something in the table caught Kazuma's eye: A gun. An honest to God gun. He picked it up and examined it carefully under the dim light of the store. It was an old pistol, wasn't sure of the model. Still, it was better than throwing his shoes at any enemy he came across.

"Finally," He opened up the magazine and reloaded it, "Three extra clips, so I shouldn't waste any of it."

"Hey, Kazuma!" He turned back to Byaku and had to stop himself from tripping. What in the hell was she doing? Was he hallucinating? Maybe the brain degradation had come early. But no, he was really seeing it.

She was wearing an Abraham Lincoln mask over her face.

"For score and seven years ago-"

He grabbed the mask from her face and placed it back onto the shelf, "Unless you think we can use that as a disguise, then stop wasting time. Both of us are wanted people right now, so we don't have time to waste running around like a bunch of kids. Are we clear?"

Byaku nodded and Kazuma went past her again. He thought he'd found some buckets and a cash register earlier, and he might have been able to scrounge something up from it. Every little bit helped-

Hold on, something wasn't right. He saw the puppets hanging onto the wall shaking slightly, the dust making its way to the floor. He didn't have time to question it before the rumbling got louder and various items out of the store started falling onto the floor.

"Hey, Byaku?" He suddenly had a bad feeling.

"No...nononono" Byaku hid herself behind one of the shelves and placed her hands around her head, "Please, please don't be here."

Another loud rumble echoed over the shop and more items sprawled out onto the floor. Kazuma made his way across the room and knelt next to her, making sure to avoid staring too much at the window across from them.

"QuQUWUAAQWWWEEEEE!" The screech echoed all over the small shop, followed by the sounds of more smashing. The two of them soon found the area around them being bathed in a green light, which was thankfully being diverted by the shelf they were hiding behind.

Byaku gasped and covered her mouth, "QuQUUUWAWEEWQEEEE" Another loud screech and the light changed from green to orange. Kazuma strained behind the shelf to look, but could only catch the glimpse of a single metallic eye before he was forced into hiding again.

The light searched the area a couple more times before a screech resounded again and the sound of rapid beating wings were heard. Kazuma waited a few more seconds before stepping out and making his way to the window, making sure to keep his gun at the ready.

Nothing but the bright sunlight and the sound of distant screeching greeted him. They were safe....for now.

"Byaku....." He found her peeking out of the shelf before quickly running to the entrance. He followed her,, "Byaku...Byaku-"

"Promise me," She grabbed the hinges of the wooden door tightly.

"I will stop him-" He tried to re-assure her.

"No!" She turned back to him, "That is a promise you can NOT keep!" She grabbed his hand gently, "But promise me....that if it comes to it..." She pressed the gun against her forehead, "You will NOT let him take me back!"

"....It won't come to that, alright?" It wouldn't, he just knew it wouldn't.

Byaku nodded and opened the door, the bright sunlight greeting them as if nothing were wrong. Of course, the two of them knew that couldn't be farther than the truth.

Proto Schwarz: A second generation IS that became the basis for the 3rd gen German Schwarzer line. The initial prospects of the machine were a high speed front unit that could handle combat at any range. It was supposed to hit fast, hit hard and take a beating.

Unlike most IS, the Proto-Schwarz sports a full layer of armor about the whole unit to provide physical defenses in addition to its energy shield. Most of the PIC systems were tuned to take advantage of momentum shifts turning the Proto-Schwarzer into a zipping hover unit than a true flyer. This eventually developed into a friction control system that would be the precursor to the AIC used in the succeeding Schwarzer IS line.

Actual armaments of the unit include 30mm vierling auto cannons mounted on the shoulders. 100mm cannons are normally stored as equalizers serve as handheld weapons in an underslung fashion. The skirt and shoulder armor serves to hide roughly 64 micro missiles that are more suited for widespread bombardment than enemy engagement. Anchor daggers are stored in each limb of the Proto-Schwarzer for cases where CQC is required.

"That's like... suicide... we're in a dinky Fishbed, but there's four of us eh? Let's go for interception"

The moments came like a blur, a single, blue tinted unit came from the expected direction, and yet managed to surprise the Erusea light interception team. It's of ISAF origin, which mean an enemy. The order came soon after the warnings got ignored, and four outdated plane soon engaged, weapons free.

It's dancing awkwardly around, amateurish and suicidal, but definitely doubtless. Once a time, it managed to dodge one R-60 short range missile flawlessly unscathed without any visible countermeasure.

There is a limit, to the aircraft and to the pilot, how much one can continuously dodge missile before being exhausted by the sheer g-force received.

But by then, they're already lack guided munitions, only their very limited aerial cannon. Fishbeds are infamous for their pitiful performance, that includes their low payload.

With this realization, they began to doubt themselves. They're just a bunch of fresh nuggets out of basic combat training, the only experienced member is the flight leader herself.

What if this scoundrel in that flying brick is actually an ace? She shrugged the though, the maneuver, the way it moves, all of it indicate that, at best it's just another nuggets, the same as her subordinates, even if this one quite talented. She also never heard of Ribbon insignia or 118th tactical squadron until now.

"[OH CRAP! I'M BEING TARGETED!]"

"CALM DOWN, YOU-" she shouted, alas, one of the nuggets splashed. Thankfully, she managed to eject.

It's seems that the bandit has enough conscience to conserve ammunition in a time like this, hence the usage of autocannon. Fishbed are quite fragile and easy to take down, so much that they only used because of low cost, easy maintenance, and nothing else.

Still, she is an ace captain with quite number of kills. She won't be beaten easily by a single Phantom, even if it's a superior combatant for the most part. She still has her missile at the very least...

"All of you, retreat, now"

"[But captain?]"

"It's an order, there's no way you can shoot it down with your current skill"

"[Rodger that!]"

No matter if she confident, she knew that using this plane in a dogfight is suicide. But at the very least, she can buy sometime until her students escape, and better if there's a reinforcement or something, anything...

"BREAK!" she shouted as she barely evaded the explosive missile. Her airframe creaking in response, being pushed too hard, while the missile exploded in dangerously close proximity, but not enough to take the plane in a single shot. Still, there are visible damages, and it was recognized by the avionics as well.

"Piece of junk" she huffed, however, her enemy didn't let her lose. The enemy should knew that it has speed and raw power advantage, if she somehow can get behind it and get a lucky shot then it's nothing but toast...

Using the terrain, she tried to shake the pursuer. Not hard to do, indeed, considering her skill. Still, her enemy has far greater range of attack. If only she had BVR capable missile instead of piece of crap that is her current payload, things will go smoothly. At least she use R-73 than R-60 like her subordinates.

And when she executed 180 degree turn, she still surprised that the plane still there, pursuing her using its massive pair ofd engines. Meanwhile, her alarm blaring as yet another sidewinder soaring toward her.

"So you want to play a game huh?" She made yet another dodging maneuver, and got her tail grazed by shrapnel.

The Phantom however quickly swing around and run away quickly, disappearing from her visual, but still there in the radar. She could try to pursue it, but then, the HQ called her and said there's another, properly equipped team sent in her stead. Also, her plane is barely flying now, anymore damage and she'll drop like a fly. Probably the reason of why the Phantom chased her, to remove her chances of pursuing it.

Ribbon insignia, the last thing she remember being distinct. She probably didn't expect it to come again with vengeance in the future, as a far, far greater threat than simple rookie in a monstrous but obsolete plane.

Yeah, 'it' was Ichika, that same Ichika we love and hate...

To address the point: a couple of rookie Erusea pilots is doing a patrol-training exercise with very crappy training plane, then Ichika flew straight past the area and they began to pursue him. Ichika is all but alone, having ALL of his comrade shot down shortly before.

Ichika has a better unit and weaponry and the captain of Erusean group (Chelsea) told them to retreat after one of them was taken out by him, decided to handle Ichika by herself. This is not the most logical decision but she prefer to be safe than sorry.

Ichika took the chance to run away after a series of dogfighting and she returned to base as ordered. After this, Ichika got stranded with Maya's flight team, comprised of Houki and Ran.

BTW, what are you smoking when writing proto Schwarzer's equipment? Logically, it would be the size of an MBT and weighed AT LEAST several tons!

I wanted something that was like Schwarzer Regen, more powerful but reasonably much less effective. I thought back to what little combat data I had on Schwarzer Regen and realized what I wanted was a unit that could take more hits, deal a massive amount of damage at any range, fast but can't make any form of tight turns without crashing.

The vierling auto cannons are basically a single system spread across the shoulders with 2 on each shoulder. The missiles are more like rocket propelled cherry bombs. The really big lugging things are the 100mm cannons.

Just to give some enlightenment of size, well. Imagine this guy is an I.S., and that as your 100mm cannon



And that's, by the way, is real life 30mm Autocannon. There's a good reason Laura's weapon is listed as 80 caliber (~20 mm) and not 80mm... good luck not toppling yourself if you use frame of standard size.

Of course, you can always go for rule of cool and ignore this post, I never obey anything I didn't like either

When you say that I can only imagine her with only a weapon of one type on each hand. Unlike Charlotte who uses her guns in pairs, I can see Maya as more of a primary in the dominant hand and side arm on the other.

Looks just about how I envisioned it. The butt of the cannon is a tad bit too small, maybe way too small. And then the actual handle is more mid way. The rear end of the cannon mainly focuses on a recoil dispersion system. The 100mm's aren't normally used for mid to short range combat. That's why they are normally kept in equalizer ports.

EDIT: Cannon whipping is also a viable option. Though easily dodged.

EXTRA EDIT: Hmm then the vierlings have to be redesigned then. A smaller load wouldn't be too bad since there's four of them firing. 18 maybe? Hmm...

Nope, she also dual wield SMG when the situation calls for it, but in case of rifle and grenade launcher, she use both hands.

Up to you then I have less-egregious weapon, though the concept is mostly the same as yours, it's a deployable ultra-high velocity sub-orbital gauss rifle. The I.S. equivalent of anti-materiel rifle, inciting YGBSM reaction from any other sniper/marksman since the wielder is the smallest I.S. in existence. Of course, being deployed means it's totally stationary... and it's semiautomatic

Spoiler for Maya's Rafael Custom:

A standard Rafael stripped down to its bare essentials. With only the arms, legs, and back unit present. Maya's unique style requests very little of her IS, requiring more flexibility and function instead of power and speed.

Most of her weapons are standard Rafael fare with a few twists. One is a weapon granted to her by endorsement of a Japanese IS company called "Orochi", an 8-barreled 13mm gatling gun. She also has a sponsor in Ireland that let her have their unique sniper rifle model called the Brionac, a five barreled semi-auto sniper chambered in 14mm.

Maya's combat style also requires her specialized equipment, though they are all derivative of current technologies. Despite being competent in highspeed combat, Maya prefers to opt for lower max speeds and higher acceleration and turning, saying that its better for her to outmaneuver her opponents than outrun them. The standard Rafael boosters are reduced to 4 and hollowed out, limiting their use to instantaneous boosting than long term thrusters. In place of propellant, the hollowed spaces house a gray scale each making each one a destructive weapon.

In cake eater, I wanted to make Maya a badass... just really really adorable. She doesn't act well under pressure but her skills are for real. She'd get a nickname and a near unbelievable reputation. "Bullet Fairy" would be the nickname. Her reputation would be one of the top shooters in her generation, as she's very conservative with her shots but still reaches a rough 83% not including shots blocked by her opponents.
