They could probably get away with a Royal Ordnance L7 105mm cannon on a Sherman and have rounds for it. That was what the early M1 Abrams used.

It might. The IDFs M51s mounted a 105mm NATO gun, and in the Yom Kippur war they survived firing the fairly energetic M456 series of HEAT-FS rounds out if them.
Its funny how in 1943 the Sherman was thought to be too narrow to mount even the 3in/50cal gun that the M6 Heavy and M10 TD mounted. But it ends its career as a gun tank firing a 105mm Nato round.

I was curious so I did some research on that bull emblem shown on the front of the StuG (gold Spanish bull on a red field). Its the insignia of the Roman 8th Augusta Legion which, in addition to serving both Julius and Augustus Caesar in their wars, spent 300 years patrolling and fighting along the Rhine. I have no idea if the show's makers knew that, but it certainly is very appropriate for this tank and its team!

The presentation is, however, in is own way not unfavorable so no the Russians won't be crying foul... :-) Spoiler: So far, in their first match with Saunders; Rabbit Team (who were doubly cursed with their canon luck plus the non-canon brutality) saw Duck team get machine-gunned by Alisa (the bullets penetrated the tank), abandoned their tank and just happened to run into a flamethrower tank, of all things... Kay throws the match after seeing all the real injuries, so Oarai goes into the next fight two tanks short...
