Damn that was an awesome chapter! I was very impressed by the fight between Makarov and Hades, and I love the way the chapter ended. Of course, Lucy stole the show though.

Now it's begging the question of what these "Amaterasu seals" are. So...

Fairy Tail really does have some of the best cover pages there are.

Awesome fight between Makarov adn Hades. Fights between great masters should always be short but sweet and this was that.

and def gotta like the ending, everyone wonders about who would be next GL and well I'd say this was a rather big hint

Just wonder now if Laxus will get the news after he meets up with his father or before then but I'm leaning towards after.

Agreed... though I'm willing to forgive Markov saying some parting words to someone (like Laxus).

Yes, I'll be sad that he dies... but the plot needs a epic long term villain badly (rather than villain of the arc that we've had for the last 200 chapters).

Having Hades "awaken" whatever is sleeping inside of Zeref would make this even more epic.

Great chapter. Things look to get darker for fairy tail for awhile. Don't what I think of Laxus as guild leader right now. Get the feeling Gildartz is stronger

I kinda figured Laxus would eventually become FT's guild leader, so it's nice to see the hint that it's heading in that direction. I think Gildartz will take over guild leadership temporarily at least (could be the main reason they introduced him), but he won't particularly care for it. Laxus will earn FT's (and Natsu's) respect back in the Ivan Raven Tail arc, most likely. I figure he knows some of the Amaretsu seals-type magic, since he knows Fairy Law. Honestly, Laxus using Fairy Law was the first big hint that he'd be a guild leader.

I would have hoped that Makarov would have put up a bit more of a fight, but I'll wait to see. I'm betting he left a spell in reserve to help FT somehow.

The "Essence of Magic" eh? And that magic was born in darkness? Why do I think this will all tie in to Zeref, the dragons, Ultear, and Lucy's mother? Sounds like a good overall plot; get back to the origins of magic itself in this world.

I really gotta say, this chapter really reinforces to me how well the overall plot is slowly being revealed, giving us tidbits and hints here and there, and each new arc giving us a new puzzle piece or two, while still being focused on what the particular arc is about.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; this is one of the best, well-written manga I've come across. It doesn't drift into endless plots that are mere side trips. The destination isn't clearly spelled out, but yet hints that there is one. The fights don't last for for chapters and chapters, with each character going through powerups. In fact, Natsu and the gang are getting stronger, but it's quite subtle; not a direct "He can now go SS2 or Gear Second!" Which really makes the plot flow smooth; the fights are a part of the plot, not the sole reason for it.

I am thankful it's still going, because once it ends, I'm probably gonna want to write a continuation fanfic, and my fanfic plate is currently full, heh.

Wow, FT seems to be getting major beats...I guess I'm right that this is going to be similar to that first meeting with Oracion Seis back in Rave.

That would be pretty awesome, though those last two pages pretty much just hint at Laxus becoming the next leader of Fairy Tail. High chances are he'll have nothing to do with this arc.

I hope i'm wrong though, because he'd be a huge help.

& i don't think Makarov is dead just yet. He still needs to say his goodbyes and all.

@Shiroth, I think it would be more emotional and better for the plot if he doesn't say his goodbyes; at least not to any of the members.

Dunno about epic but technically the Council is a multi-arc villain, from a certain perspective.

Looks to me like Makarov just died...and if he didn't JUST die, I bet my cookies he'll be dead once this arc is over. Anyways, delicious cover page, a good allusion to Zeref and "magic", but...dark magic again?

At least it seems plot-related and got measuring units (in amaterasu? lmao) but anyways, it was good enough. Last page was awesome though, can't wait to see the new Luxus.
