From earlier chapters:
I kinda feel Ryo and Alice kindah made contradicting statements in the score of all contests between them. Ryo seemed to have said Ryo won more than Alice while Alice seemed to have said she has the lead. Is there a translation error going on here?

I could care less how ryou lost this match, as I said before both ryou and souma are very similar and they had to compete with a genius who had a great mentor and was cooking for the right reason such as cooking for Jun. Also with your logic then souma should also be a prodigy because he learnt through self teaching. Jourichou didn't teach much anything to souma and he basically learned through experience in battles and with his unique creative thinking. Also I never said that the only thing he cook is curry, instead the guy is a genius in spices/aromas beacuse of his tutelage with Jun and his gifted nose. Also it pretty obvious that both souma and ryou have way more potential than hayama. This match was very close even though both souma and ryou are lacking in specialty, they didn't have the same advance teachings as hayama, and they wasn't cooking for the right reasons. If both chefs train more and start cooking for the right reasons then they could beat hayama with a little more ease in the future.

Gonna admit it...I AM extremely salty that Hayama won instead of the other two, I don't like him at all (his type annoys me) and I'm sick and tired of the shounen bullshit development of "the MC losing in the big tournament, but hey! They are pretty close in power which is nice".
And yes, this was also "Genius > Hard Work" scenario.

Also, Souma's flashback just lost all meaning to me. I feel that it really did just become a useless piece of filler if in the next he just goes and loses it.

Oh but it's all good! They are pretty much in the same level! Right? Right...?
Damn, this chapter is annoying me so much.

Probably. Roy said that to Alice's face (which she didn't dispute though he was wailing from her defeat to Soma) while Alice said hers to Soma and Erina while Ryo was out competing (and hence couldn't respond though he might not care about the score anyway other than being the latest/most recent winner in their contests).

Just as Juuichirou taught Soma the basics,Curry Boy most likely was only taught the basics by Jun apart from spice tempering techniques.He most likely had to learn elsewhere to learn advance techniques like searing a fish with a blowtorch.As for Hayama,he's also got plenty of room for improvement.Soma's ability to think outside of the box really caught him by surprise.

also I was just thinking how the author portrayed or build up the story to hayama's win makes some readers unable to accept the result quickly.

Not really. They may have fought each other off-screen, for all we know.

In chapter 90, Alice mentions that the score between them is almost even, but she cannot build a considerble lead over him.

Think of it along the lines of Kakashi & Guy constantly battling each other to see who's the better ninja.

Well the statements contradict each other because Ryo says Ryo has lead while Alice says Alice has lead. That is the contradiction. That's why I asked if there was any error in translation.

Again both hayama and Jun are partners, She makes up the formulas and he performs them with his cooking skills and his gifted nose. Hayama has had way more advance teachings about his specialty more than souma and ryo. Jun probably haven't taught him everything but enough where he could stand out from the rest combine with his godly nose. Both souma and ryou didn't have that type of advance teaching from anybody. Ryou probably just learn the basics from his former restaurant just like souma and they continue from there with the numerous battles and ideas they came up with.

Nope, there was no (xlation) error(s) there.

Think about this: Ryou said that in chapter 67, whereas she mentions about it in chapter 90.

So there's quite a time gap in between for off-screen cooking battles between them to occur.

I was talking about the built up until now for this match.
If the author really intended to make Hayama win, he could have made 2 chapters to
present Hayama's dish, showing his originality, details on how he created his dish.

So from what I gathered from the people posting here...

At first it was a tie for all 3 of them and a winner could not be decided, so a secondary aspect was included into the judgement as a means of a "tiebreaker", which was the "originality of the dish", so it's kind of the same as when in a sports league, the first 3 teams had the same amount of points at the end, and the winner has to be judged by other, secondary aspects instead.

Did I get that right?
