Best Albums of 08.

New year, new albums, new recommendations.

I haven't listened to a whole lot of stuff yet but some things I can recommend thus far are.

I love this band!

sample track- Dark Leaves From A Thread.
http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/fil...A%20Thread.mp3

They are an indie alt rock/ shoegaze band.
Sample track- Warm Rising Sun
http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/fil...sing%20Sun.mp3

I didn't like it as much as the other two but still worth a listen.

Other than these, I don't know of any good new ones considering we're only one month into the new year =/

It's never too early. As the year goes by just recommend albums that have stood out to you.

Have a Nice Life - Deathconsciousness

The first Highlight of the year is a 2 disc debut from the US. Brilliant Shoegazer with Elements of Industrial and Drone, absolutely beautiful.

Listened to some more albums recently worth a mention.

This album is amazing! Easily the best I've listened to this year, seriously everyone needs to listen to this. Such a talented group.

I liked this album a lot on first listen, it has some catchy and interesting lyrics. I even saw them play live last night, they gave a good performance but nothing that blew me away unfortunately.

This band has a very interesting sound, and a pretty solid album worth checking out.

And lastly I thought that I would mention that I got a chance to listen to the new Portishead album "Third" it was very meh unfortunately. I used to listen to them a bunch 3-4 years ago so it was a little disappointing that nothing really stood out from this new album.

I like the new Portishead album...and it's waaay better than that Vampire Weekend stuff.

Other highlights so far:
Li Jianhong - San Sheng Shi: 50 minute noise guitar-solo, brilliant.
The Goslings - Occasion: The follow-up to the awesome Grandeur of Hair - doesn't reach the same musical heights but is still definitely worth a listen.
Autechre - Quaristice: A lot of people say that this record is a disappointment; I'm not one of them. While it isn't pushing the boundaries farther - as Autechre so far did on pretty much every new release - it still is a pretty damn good album.
Prurient - And Still, Wanting: Get this! His second best album, right behind Black Vase.
Brethren of the Free Spirit - All Things Are from Him, Through Him and in Him: Great instrumental free-folk.

Well its still early so my list is subject to change. Anyway here are my picks.

Introducing Foxy Shazam - Foxy Shazam

Their debut album and its my one of my favorites of 08. Some of the best piano playing I've ever heard, it flows perfectly with the songs. These guys are the kings of hardcore dance music.

Dream - Keller Williams

My favorite Acoustic Artist and this is my favorite album of his. Every song has its own style and its just a pleasure to listen too. There is plenty of variety in each song.

Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings - Counting Crows

Although the album is not out until March 25th I know it will be by pick for best album of 08. Counting Crows has ever since I first herd them been my favorite band and I expect nothing but greatness from this next album. I've listened to two of the new songs on their myspace and they're are awesome. There is not a single song from Counting Crows I dislike so I expect the same with this latest album.

I wasn't a fan personally, I just didn't like the production I guess.

I also heard a lot of people praising Autechre - Quaristice but personally I'm just not really into that genre.

so far, i like:

Born Ruffians - Red, Yellow & Blue (yay, Toronto!)
El Guincho - Alagranza! (the lazy comparison to this is that this is the Spanish Person Pitch)

trying to get into Vampire Weekend and some bits of the Crystal Castles album are good, although I don't really like some of the songs with megaphone-like screaming...

I got my ticket for the Tom Waits Gloom and Doom tour today!

It cost 100 bucks and I have no regrets at all paying that price, since I'm sure theres people that would pay double and triple that amount to go.

On a side note the new Wolf Parade album - At Mount Zoomer is pretty sweet.

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endid=17104237

And I'm going to see them play in July.
