Looks like we get Limit Break-like attacks only they're being taken one step further:

From GameFAQs:
Quote:
It seems each weapon type has a "Deathblow" that you can use if you meet the requirements while in battle.
Each type of weapon has 3 different deathblows (3x9 weapon types = 27 Deathblows)

Plus you can use "parts" to customize your Deathblow, you can make it have an elemental property, status effect, work better against certain type of enemies and 1 more thing. (Or so it seems from looking a the pictures, it reminds me of setting a "skillset" in FFT.)

Also you can name your Deathblow and add a message to it. Since Deathblows are customizable you can show your friends your own original deathblow if they summon you using the "Friend Summon" feature.

There's a "Deathblow Parts" shop in the town you have to rebuild.
Basically this doing what FFX kinda of trying to do with Overdrives only better. Too bad you have to make use of a community feature to able use it. =/

Someone ripped tracks from the demo and has uploaded them online. Revo (and Sound Horizon) is not a composer I'm familar with, but after hearing these I can see why he's popular. Fantastic stuff all around.

Track names are unofficial BTW.

A live Broadcast is on for anyone interested. (it's over)

http://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv107678312

EDIT: Awesome! Deathblows apparently change the background music when they're activated. Each type of weapon has it's own theme too! The moves shown were pretty cool BTW.

EDIT 2: Friend summoning still looks pretty weird.

EDIT 3: Awww, seems like I was kicked out by a premium user, the game is looking ace though. Hopefully this gets recorded.

EDIT 4: According another forum looks like I missed a quite a lot of cool stuff: Dark Knight reveal, Onion Knight costume dual wielding axe Merchants, crazy new summons.

Summary and clarfication of the most important things on the stream:

Quote:
-9 weapon types
-Multiple finishing moves per weapon type
-Effects of finishing moves (which can be customized) stack
-Each character has a unique theme which plays after using a finishing move
-Send characters to other people by Street Pass or over the Internet
-Nolende Village takes 1000 hours to rebuild; increasing the population will reduce this time
-Increase the villages population via Street Pass or by using the internet
-A shop in Nolende Village lets you buy parts to customize finishing moves
-Abilities gained via abilink are less powerful and require higher cost
-"Fear" status ailment prevents Braving and Defaulting
-Some bosses have huge amounts of HP
-Dark Knight job shown, looks like FF4 Dark Knight Cecil
-Dark Knight's skills can use up HP; you can inflict status effects on yourself to increase abilities
-Onion Knight costume shown for Tiz; obtained via FaceBook
-Planning more costumes, some to be distributed via Twitter
-46 tracks in the game, with 10 being battle tunes
-Collaboration weapon with Dengeki; a lance
From NeoGAF

Sounds pretty good, though I'm kinda disappointed with the number songs in the game. With big music tie in this game has you would expect a bit more tracks.

BTW, something that was not mentioned:
-Ifirit and Shiva (or at least in her case, heavily redesigned) seem to have been replaced by Doomtrain (elemental fire summon) and two new summons.

TGS Trailer and Iwata's Ask Interview

TGS trailer is up.

Bravely Default was featured in Iwata Ask's yesterday, and cleared up somethings and spoke about the direction and concept of the game. This a summarized version, but it still an interesting read.

Original source: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/interv...l20/index.html

Quote:
Translations of Iwata Asks. Tried to focus on stuff we didn't know.

-The first RPG Asano (white shirt) ever passed was FF3. Ironically, he was in charge of the FF3 remake on the DS. Also worked on Four Warriors of Light and the FF4 remake.
- Hayashi (Mages) worked on the scenario. Used to work at KID. Worked on the scenario for Stein's Gate.
-Asano first said to Hayashi he wanted him to create characters you could fall in love with.
-The 'base' idea of the game was four characters who had changable jobs.
-They focused on creating characters who had good interactions with each other, and a balance of personalities and how to show the drama between them and the "bad guys".
-The main character's motivation is to restore her hometown.
-For example, say it takes 1,000 hours to restore it with one person, 500 with two, 250 with four and so on, where the additional villagers are collected through StreetPass. The main character is the one who bears the communication functions.
-One of the heroines is the daughter of bad characters.
-The notebook held by Ringabel can be read by the player at any time. It contains information on the future.
-The game (scenario, characters) has a nostalgic feeling of older style RPGs.
-Abi-Link system; can use friends higher-leveled character's abilities for a time.
-Can connect the game online for those living in regions where StreetPasses are uncommon.
-Core-concept: "A single player RPG that you play together"
-Quests, like item collections, don't make up the main part of the game, like the 5th demo.
-Order of learning abilities is different too.
-Changing the game based on feedback from the demo was based on seeing how social games are improved on after release with feedback from players.
-Team worked hard to increase the battle speed, but Asano recognises it will still not please everyone.
-Asano feels the pressure because of the expectations with this being a SE RPG.
-No problems picking the battle system up for FF or DQ fans.
-Been in-dev (since planning) for about 2 years.
Thanks to StreetsAhead from NeoGAF.

I know I keep saying it, but the more I see of this game the more I kind of want to play it. It looks like everything that made me fall in love with Final Fantasy back in the 90's that I thought Square Enix had completely abandoned to that period in time. I hope it gets announced for worldwide release sooner rather than later.

Also is Agnes (Anies?) supposed to be the de facto main character of the story then or is it supposed to be an ensemble cast like FFVI I wonder? A lot of the promo material and videos seems to focus on her rather than Tiz is being an important figure of some sort despite him always getting listed first in character lists and I know Square Enix basically pulled a fast one with FFXII where despite pushing Vaan a lot early on and on the box art it's clear from the story that Ashe is the one that the events of the game ultimately revolve around even if everyone kind of gets their moment in the spotlight.

All four characters (Anies, Tiz, Edea & Ringabel) share the leading role, though the story does center Anies a little more than the others. In her case she would be a bit like Terra, the driving force of plot, but not heavily overshadowing everyone otherwise. Also to according to Hayashi, the story will be quite character driven which means everyone in main cast should get their chance to shine anyway.

As for international release, I feel that chances are pretty good considering the high budget this game's got.

Despite that I still can't see it happening. The 3DS is really being ignored stateside.

If it didn't get released I'd almost be more inclined to think it would be the result of a "because you wish it" scenario, but in spite of Square Enix totally not listening to what fans are telling them of late I still can't imagine they'd be that dickish....right?

SE has a pretty good track record when it come releasing their games worldwide some exceptions notwithstanding (like the FFLegend/SaGa remakes and Sigma Harmonics for the DS). Unless another Type-0 PSP fiasco suddenly develops, the only way this won't come overseas is if end up being a catastrophic bomb saleswise in Japan. I think we should be fine for the most part.

I don't if it really means anything, but I guess we take it as a good sign for how people are feeling about the game.

What about Lightnings Revenge or whatever it's called. Surely people must be stoke about the upcoming 2nd sequel to everyone's favorite Final Fantasy universe.

Can't vote something that wasn't there, otherwise Versus and Shin Megami Tensei 4 would be on that list too.

Seriously though, it will probably be on the list if manages to impress people at the next TGS when it's demoed.

Surprisingly, it looks like Siliconera went translated the entire Iwata Ask's interview:
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/09/24...cately-linked/
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/09/25...next-epic-rpg/

It's a good read, and there's quite a bit of detail the wasn't in the summarized version.

BTW, a "Direct Feed" version of the TGS trailer is up.

So SE wasn't just collaborating with Revo and Hayashi, but also some guest designers too.

Now this game is doing away with another tradition:

Quote:
Since Bravely Default: Flying Fairy isn’t a Final Fantasy title so producer Tomoya Asano didn’t have to use Ramuh, Shiva, and Ifrit.

Bravely Default has five new summons:

Prometheus’ Fire makes a fire breathing train appear. In Greek mythology, Prometheus is the deity that gave fire to humans.

Ziusudra’s Sin summons a woman-like figure that floods the screen with water. Ziusaudra is from the Sumerian flood myth.

Hraesvelgr transforms from an airplane into a bird-like creature that hits all enemies with a wind attack. Hraesvelgr sits at the edge of the heavens and makes the wind blow when he flaps his wings, according to Norse mythology.

Girtablilu is a giant scorpion that makes the earth shake when it slams both of its claws into the ground. Girtablilu are servants of the sun god Shamash in the Epic of Gilgamesh.

Deus Ex is a giant machine that builds up electric energy and shoots lightning. Square Enix seems to have taken inspiration from the phrase "deus ex machina" for this summon. I wonder if this was a missed opportunity to make a chibi Adam Jensen since Deus Ex: Human Revolution is simply called Deus Ex in Japan.
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/10/02...medium=twitter

Bravely Default also scored a 38/40 in Famitsu (10/9/9/10).

Keep in mind this is Kotaku, but this is pretty depressing, but nonetheless not in the slightest bit surprising considering how awful Square Enix has been to it's fans of late.

Really though I can't help but not be surprised that what is easily the only Square Enix game I have any remote interest in would stay Japan exclusive, while all we're looking to get are more re-releases, Final Fantasy XIII and Kingdom Hearts. Is this all they plan on being in North America from here on out because honestly I don't see why they don't just go Japan exclusive at this point. They're practically dead creatively anyway save for this game and the stuff Eidos is putting out.

At least there will apparently be Fire Emblem: Awakening so I can take some solace in that.
