Director is Takashi Watanabe, director of the two seasons of Shakugan no Shana and the movie. Hideki Shirane, the series composer, also worked on Yume-kui Merry as series composer as well.

This link takes you to the staff list in ANN for Hidan no Aria.

ok? so whats your point? just because some of the same people are working on it doesnt really make them similar....in fact it supports my previous point, the studio must have faith in the project if they are putting some high profile people behind it

@Marcus

Even if the Staffs are the same, I don't see how the first episode of Aria is similar to Shana.

Then again, could this be the case where every Shaft show is Shaft, every Sunrise Mech is Sunrise, and Every KyoAni is KyoAni?

Meaning instead of Aria being like Shana, isn't more likely you're seeing it as JC Staff's own style which they have been using for these kinds of series (Plus Kugimiya Rie and her whichever consort) ?

@Westlo

Mah~ I'm no expert in Anime sales, but when I look at all the tops selling series they all have rather high production value, of course high production doesn't make it a confirm success, but it sure helps alot. THAT SAID, until I get back to my country and use a proper computer to watch, I don't see the 'low' production value of this series from my iTouch's youtube.

My inner J.C. staff skeptic is awakened by my inner doubts from Toaru Majutsu no Index II that I have been trying to ignore, which were stirred when I witnessed that final scene from Hidan no Aria Episode 04.

*blink blink*

Say what? It's a cliffhanger, it's meant to leave you hanging... Wait, don't tell me you're still hung up on Riko's hair again

Yup, I'm still hung up on Riko's hair. I already know what allowed her to use that ability, but it will not be introduced until much later on.

Shouldn't the Riko-Aria fight remind you of the fight between Kihara Amata and Accelerator?
Where there is a third person who is spectating a few inches from the fight itself?

ah... so okay. But Index is doing some other job which is to get Last Order in good shape while in this fight with Aria vs Riko. Kinji is waiting for the opening.

and about the hair..... well the way things are it will still be explain and hope so.

O_O;; I would be afraid for Index's life then. This frail guy standing behind you while you sing is at least a scary guy with powers. I was amazed that Kinji miraculously disappeared at the middle of the gunfight. Did he activate a spectator mode?

About the hair, that is my concern. Aria being shot is a nice cliffhanger, but it also makes Riko's ability asspull-like. I would have cut off the episode at the point where Riko introduces her status as a Quadra, and a short battle in the next episode can end in Aria's gunshot wound.

But alas, what I want can only happen in fanfiction.

when Shirayuki breaks down, theres a small bulletproof cabinet he has for refuge whenever she goes choppy and Aria guns-a-blazing

I know, and quite frankly apart from Shana, I preferred their non-Jump stuff, they are quite different, and rather more interesting, and less repetitive than their action shows and the staff working on them (in-house or outsourced).

Likewise, having 24 episodes doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Depends, Aria seemed to be in a position to use some good rewriting of the source material... judging by what novel readers say and having more episodes, usually means that writing takes a precedence over visualizing. But since it has only one cour, I guess more fanservice would benefit a show that is doomed to be silly.

this, I agree.
There just doesn't seem to be good enough fanservice. I mean, we needed 2ch's unrivalled photographic skillz just to spot a gunchira spanned in a nanosecond time-frame...

Honestly, I would prefer going into spectator mode rather than being in the middle of the crossfire between those two ladies.

I just found the synopsis for ep 6-9. From this it's pretty obvious how much the anime this season will cover the light novels.

Spoiler for anime arcs:

To answer your question, this is the same guy that directed Shana and Merry.

Should we begin the funerals, so we can roll over in our graves?

Let's just hope the director dosen't lead this 'route' towards a 'bad end' this time.
