As she located the bridge, she found Shuu lying against one wall while Renais and the J-Jewel cyborg warrior Soldat-J in chains and on fire. Suddenly the chains broke as Renais' G-Stone Hyper mode was transferred to J. Mabiko saw that they were going to be fine and tended to Shuu.

Mabiko: Shuu-niichan! Pull yourself together!

Shuu: Is that you, chibikko? Looks like you're a little late to the party.

As Shuu picked her up and jumped out of J-Der's chest as it began Mega Fusion, Mabiko drew her blades and felt the power flowing from them into her, filling her very being...

Mabiko:In my name, bless them with power...Trinary Fusion, PROGRAM DRIVE!!

Cross-striking the blades together before throwing them in a circular boomerang arc, the sparking of the blades created a vortex as the three units entered.

Shuu: Trinary FUSION! Courage, Love, and Hope! Gou! Jei! ZAAAAAAR!

As the vortex orb dissipated, mabiko gave her next order to the newly form Yuusha.

Mabiko: Go assist Guy in fending off Palparepa. I'll be invoking power to everyone.

In another corner, Shuu was resting, his weariness taking over as he fell into a peaceful rest for the first time since they were exiled. On the far side, Mabiko could see two missiles, but nothing more, as the Nova Charger showed her the next location.

Mabiko: ...527-3245-3...

Mabiko shut the cover and willed her items toward her and locked the nova charger in place for transportation. As her formation began to activate, Mabiko noticed J and Shuu smirking and winking at her to send her off. In her mind, she heard Guy's voice.

Guy: Yuuki aru chikai to tomo ni susume...

Mabiko felt tears as she warped out, knowing that she had done her part...

*Flash*

Fate: Will you...ever be able to summon that power again?

Mabiko motioned to Murakumo and Kusanagi, who expanded their chambers, showing the glowing orbs.

Mabiko: As long as these orbs still carry the flame they represent and I continue to follow the vow Guy said...the power is still in my hands...however...

Mabiko shut the chambers to set Murakumo and Kusanagi on the table and motioned for Judaicus and Caucasus to her as well as the Nova Charger.

Mabiko: ..the next world is directly related to battlers once more...and how I finally activated Eisenfach...

Mabiko looked down...to see Hayate leaning over resting on her head on her breasts.

Mabiko: ...I guess it can't be helped...I seriously wonder if you're still a kid at heart...

Mabiko only heard a giggle from Hayate as she looked over at her daughters, who were wide awake and probably dying to hear the next part of the story while crushing poor Zafira underneath a mass of c-cup bosoms.

GouJeiZar? Strange name for a mecha, but then again Shuu wins for having his own FUSION sequence So Mabiko is just the one who summons GouJeiZar for Shuu huh? Wonder when she'll be getting her own mecha.

As an archaeologist, I try to recreate moments in the past, and empathize with the experiences of those people who’ve helped shaped history simply by living in them. I try to imagine their lives through the artifacts, hieroglyphs and other stuff that I uncover, piecing together tidbits and shards of information into the bigger picture, trying to decipher how they’ve lived their lives. But until this time, I’m not sure if my image of them was true to the memories they’ve had. And then here you are, with first-hand memories of someone who has lived in that past, who knows that past intimately. All the trivial matters you may miss, I take in and examine till I’ve wrung all the conclusions out of it.

I’m certainly envious, if only I have Iisa’s memories like you do…

She told them her reasons for taking care of them… how she found joy and satisfaction in nursing them back to life, even during the times she was hurt by the very children she took care of. And that even if she died, the life she gave back to them would forever exist in them for as long as they were truly alive, as long as they truly enjoyed living. She didn’t mind dying, because she had been given more in life than she could ever truly ask for.

Iisa took these words to heart, with both reverence to Ifureeta… and disgrace to himself. Their race had long tried to beat death, to extend their lifespans. Had they learned these lessons earlier… perhaps their race wouldn’t have had to suffer at the hands of the C’tan, who traded their lives for an immortal yet hollow existence. And when she finally passed away, Iisa, and the rest of the Necronomicon vowed to honor her memory by living their second chances to the fullest.”

Then quite unexpected, the big one bit.

Anyway, I'll be commenting later, as I decided to break Act III in two halves. So here goes new shortened Act III and I'm off working on Act IV.

I closed my eyes tightly. It burned. Unfinished cover made of aether threads above my head partially dissipated the beam but was unable to avert it completely and it rained over me making the mud beneath my feet boil and scatter around. It burned viciously but I felt that the girl did a mistake. The portion of magical damage dealt by the beam was too great. If she concentrated more on inflicting physical damage she could probably hurt my body enough to make me unable to continue the fight. But she didn’t. And magical damage was something I was used to, this amount was far from necessary to make me fall. Was she trying not to endanger my life? How stupid. Such attitude doesn’t fit a soldier. Some day it will cost her life. I’ll show her that you must always act seriously from the beginning if you intend to win.

The pink light went out and I was able to open my eyes again. My Barrier Jacket was smoldering and falling drops of rain were constantly turning into a growing steam cloud around me. The Jacket was even partially tattered to the point I could see my skin exposed but I felt no serious physical injuries. I lowered my right hand. The four girls kept looking at me silently.

- So, do you feel like taking a combat form now? – I asked looking at my bracelet.

- But you’re not even bleeding yet, Master, - Aether Origin was quick with its replies as usual.

- What are you, stupid? That girl’s magic won’t make me bleed even when I get burned to ashes. But if that’s what you need …

I extended my left arm and lowered the head.

- Ivory Dagger! – I called out.

A magical circle appeared under my feet. My magical circle. Usual Mid-Childian circle in its center, and an asymmetrical star with nine prongs of different length sticking out of it. It shined gold and illuminated my figure from below with its pulsating light. A thin dagger about 30 cm long shaped of pure white magical energy appeared in my hand. I brought it to my face and made a long cut across the left side of the forehead. The blood quickly ran down my cheek mixing itself with the falling rain. I made the dagger disappear.

- Satisfied now?

- You always overdo things, Master. I was just waiting for you to ask politely.

- Quit useless blabber and change already.

- Just as a reminder – I won’t be able to take care of Flight magic for you when I change.

- Like I care about that, just do it, - I was beginning to get angry.

- As you wish, Master. AETHER ORIGIN: FORM OF THE MOON!

A golden round shield materialized above the bracelet on my right hand and I was able to feel again the difference between the Device’s modes. I could see the flow of magic particles much clearer now and it cost no effort to make them move according to my wishes anymore. I also felt the Device’s own spells ready to be unleashed but decided not to rush the situation.

- I’m ready to continue, Captain Takamachi, - I said with a smile.

- Alright, - she said with a bit of sadness in her voice and nodded.

- Nanoha, be careful! – I heard Fate’s voice.

- I will, - she answered, readying another volley of energy balls.

They rushed at me like the previous time, randomly changing the paths and performing complicated maneuvers in the air, trying to prevent me from predicting the way they’ll strike. But this time I was different. I had enough speed, I had enough power, and I had enough knowledge of the spells’ binding points – enough to bring them all down at once. A weird golden figure consisting of intertwined threads appeared in the sky for a split second. And then an explosion followed. Countless balls of energy flying at me from all directions were made to explode in an instant, brightly illuminating the surroundings.

- That won’t work on me now, - I smirked.

The girl remained silent. She materialized the energy balls once more. Suddenly they formed almost a perfect wall in front of her and charged at me. “Beam attack, targeting head and chest” – ringed my Aether Insight the moment I was about to make the energy balls explode like the previous ones. I stepped back instinctively and saw two beams of smaller caliber emerging from the balls’ mass towards me. “Fall down!” – I ordered, and a dozen of aether threads popped up on the beams’ path, adjusting their direction and making them crash into ground not being able to reach me. I made a half-turn and waved my right hand horizontally, making the threads pierce and destroy incoming wall of energy balls. “One more volley” – I felt before seeing another bunch of balls rushing at me through the dying remnants of their fallen brethren. “And one more thing …” Now I didn’t have to look to recognize it – Nanoha darted through the air above me, this time probably aiming to hit me with a beam attack from the back while I was busy dealing with another wave of her projectiles.

- Useless, - I grinned.

Flight magic takes different forms depending on the tastes of the mage who casts it. Some prefer concentrating magical energy into a visible form making those objects propel them through the sky, other make a floating cocoon of magical energy around them, and so on. Captain Takamachi’s Flight magic manifested itself in the form of pink wings attached to her boots – what a childish approach. But it didn’t matter. Without turning to her I raised my right hand with an open palm.

- Aether Grip! – I shouted clenching my fist.

Rapid fluctuations of magic particles ripped apart the magic holding the girl in the air and by her short scream I realized that my move reached its goal. Without wasting time I made another half-turn, now seeing her falling followed by a trail of torn pink feathers, and pointed the right hand forward, ordering the aether threads to take over the remaining energy balls and throw them at Nanoha. The girl was probably confused by the fall and the projectiles got a clear hit, dragging the white-clad body several meters along the ground.

- Nanoha! – Fate couldn’t keep herself silent.

- Is that all you’ve got? – I started walking towards the place she fell.

- Not exactly, - Nanoha stood up slowly.

Her Barrier Jacket was messed up considerably and there were several bruises on her face but she didn’t seem to have serious injuries.

- I’m glad, then we can proceed further, - I said stopping about 10 meters away from her.

- I really wanted to avoid this, - she said, - Raising Heart, please! Excellion Mode!

- Alright, my Master, - confirmed the Device.

Her Device drastically changed its form, turning into something similar to a spear with an oversized head and several wing-like pink energy jets emerging from it. Captain Takamachi pointed the Device at me and initiated her magical circle. The thing Aether Insight showed me was quite amazing. “Trap the opponent into an invisible field. Quadruple beam shot. Charge with a close-ranged barrier-piercing spear attack. Finish with a massive energy burst up close.” Knowing all of this, should I try to avoid them one by one? That’d probably be easier, but the fight was dragging on for too long. I will counter her attacks directly, crush them all and either make her Device show if it has anything more than this or take it from her when she admits her defeat and investigate by myself.

- Force Burst! – Four beams, each similar to the previously used by Nanoha Divine Buster, rushed at me almost simultaneously and were first to meet my defenses.

A golden wall arose on the beams’ way, shaped specifically to redirect them separately into the sky. The beams crashed into it fiercely but were unable to inflict any visible damage to it. Instead, they were made to change their path according to my plans and rocketed up like four bizarre fountains of pink energy. At that moment a sound of millions tiny bells filled the surroundings as Nanoha clashed against the wall with her next attack.

- Accel Charge System Mode! – She thrust the energy bayonet formed on the tip of her Device into my wall, using up the cartridges in her magazine one after another.

A solid wall made of magic particles – in theory no magical means should be able even to come close to penetrating it, as it would go directly against said magic’s own nature. Keeping the wall intact cost me a great deal of concentration and I couldn’t maintain it for a long period of time even with Aether Origin in combat form, but the girl’s magic certainly had its limits too. I couldn’t see her on the other side of the wall nor hear if she said anything, but I knew that the moment she released her final energy burst just to be deflected by my aether defenses as well the victory would rest in my hands. So I just had to hold it a little longer, long enough for her to give up with the spear charge and resort to her last attack, and with that the fight would be finished.

The whole wall suddenly trembled and I thought if I could miss the moment Nanoha let the final burst loose. But that wasn’t the case – she still kept pressing on the conglomerate of aether threads with her spear. The wall trembled for the second time and I witnessed what seemed to be the violation of the known to me laws of magic – on the ideally smooth golden surface appeared a tiny crack. In a second it widened and I saw a tip of Raising Heart’s bayonet shoving through it. The bayonet was partially crumbled but managed to move forward several centimeters further. My natural reaction should’ve been a feeling of shock or fear but I felt joy instead. There was only one single possibility for a Device to penetrate my defenses. And that meant I was right. Raising Heart was somehow related to Aether Origin, sharing its power over magic particles.

- Excellion Buster! Break Shoot! – Hearing Nanoha’s words I smiled at the Device pointed directly at me.

Now that could be the end of it? Or not yet

Sharing power over magic particles... ka? If we take divine will into consideration, maybe that's why Kha and Sakura could reverse the threads at the particulate level. (sub-moe-lecular for the Unison Device /heh/)

I'd like to see how a Kha VS Serge would look like. Kha would definitely have something to say about seeing through Whispers the magic particles flying about in a most unbelievably controlled manner. And given Serge's take no prisoners policy, I believe it is justified for Sakura to be Unisoned in and the Cleric to use that in that battle in order to match Serge. Best of all, it won't feel as trivial as it would if he used that on Tais.

As a side note, Kha is more of a team player than a soloist, so in a 1v1, while Sakura's unison and that might help level the playing field, ultimately his chance at victory is always to hold his own until his allies arrive before he can turn the tide. It's because of this that's why he can be considered both an Ace (for having enough power and grace to be very tenacious even though he can't win alone) and a Striker (team player)

As with any head on encounter with the Aces during StrikerS timeline, beware the Ion Canon. I need to remind myself that too. Good post! Gives much better understanding of what's going on when Serge fights too! Knowing Serge, I doubt that's the end. Let's see what Act 4's about.

Dance of the Demons takes place shortly before StrikerS timeline, approximately the year before its beginning (judging on A's to StrikerS manga Drones started appearing some time before StrikerS, don't remember exact numbers, maybe someone could enlighten me anyway it'll be alright with me unless I'll have a gap of less than a month)

If Fate bothered to tell Kha (knowing her she wouldn't) of the encounter that gave her that bruise which I think Shamal fixed, there would be no holding the Cleric back indeed.
