This is Tomoya's chest, not his back. It's entering into his heart. He can't see it...well, I can't say why he can't see it. He could see it (and all the others) in the visual novel; this is modified from source.

As for the meaning behind the orbs, this was already explained at the end of the Yukine arc. They're handling them a bit differently here than they did in the VN, but I understand why from a story standpoint. For obvious reasons, I will refrain from explaining further here.

As for the episode, it had some really wonderful moments. Sanae finally allowing herself to mourn was a magnificently handled scene, as was, of course, the scene with Tomoya and his father. The way they handled the light was unexpected, but, as I said, it makes sense in the context of the show and its limited time. (Ushio muttering "The light..." and Tomoya misunderstanding worked surprisingly well on two levels – the misunderstanding on the surface, and the gentle reminder of Tomoya as protector.)

As I said after the last episode, they will probably not top episode 18 and this didn't do it, despite those very nice emotional moments. However, After Story as a whole continues to shine brighter as Ushio's arc progresses. 9/10

The next episode should be interesting.

well if they did the vn's approach with orbs, there would be 5 seasons of clannad, I think this infusion is probably the best way for the anime medium and from an anime story telling standpoint.

She causes the big fat smile plastered on my face as I watch the non-tearjerker moments, all throughout the episode but especially the part where she displays this incredulous wonder as she explores her daddy's home.

It wasn't that big of a glow, it's a pretty small orb so it shouldn't be seen much on a sunny day.

you know how tomoya was revealed to be the only one to see it? Perhaps his daughter inherited it (duh)? Plus I think Tomoya and now Ushio can only see the light orbs when OTHER people are happy (like yukine's visit to her brother's grave)
