Maybe that's why they replaced all the music with new compositions when it was released as Matsuri on the PS2.
I remember there was a time when 07th Expansion used to use the copyright-free doujin music to make erotic jigsaw puzzle Flash games. I believe the composers for Higurashi Kai were fans of the first four episodes, so they contributed music to Kai.

As for the music in Matsuri and Kizuna, they'd probably have problems getting rights to the music for both the question arc and the answer arc. After all, some of the music for the MangaGamer release of Higurashi Kai had to be replaced and tracks are even missing from the official soundtrack.

Solution: Use ONScripter-EN
  1. Copy all the files from the disc to a folder on your system
  2. Download the latest version of ONScripter-EN. Extract the ZIP and place the application into the 'fullsrc' subfolder.
  3. Download a font file. Extract the ZIP and place the font file into the 'fullsrc' subfolder.
  4. Run the ONScripter-EN application.

I've taken the liberty of typing up the Higanbana character profiles shown in the game, as they appear in Japanese. I'd like someone to translate

Anyway, I'm still in the middle of transcribing the profiles, so here's the first batch of characters. Also, note that there may be heavy spoilers.

Spoiler for Moriya Marie (森谷毬枝):

Spoiler for Higanbana (彼岸花):

Spoiler for Kanamori Yoshihito (金森義仁):

Spoiler for Health Doctor (保健の先生):

Just read this weekend
It was not as orgasmic as the naku koro ni series but definitely a good read
The stories I liked the most were (3)お姫様の嘘 and (7)ユートピア, even though I have a slight feeling that I've read something similar to (3) somewhere before.

The positive aspect is that since there's no mystery to solve here, you can just read it without worrying too much about missing a crucial detail

The manga version didn't appeal too much to me, but the VN version made it look a bit better to me, and at least for the firt two stories, I kind of felt the VN was a bit faster than the manga to develop things

Mind telling us more about "ユートピア"? The only things I really know for sure after reading it are:

Spoiler for ユートピア:

I'm far more familiar with the plot of "お姫様の嘘," but there's one detail I'm still unsure about.

Spoiler for The detail:

This is a very shallow summary
Utopia is long as hell and I'm probably forgetting many details
Sorry for the typos, I wrote pretty fast

Spoiler:

As for Mister Black Tea, they say he has no rank among the school youkais, however he has power and would be 2nd place in the ranking of the shadows. He's also the right arm of the The Principal, (the old man youkai from chapter 2), and thus he is called Vice-Principal, as well.

What do you mean by "the shadows"?

I don't know
They just say this.

(*Sorry if this 'shadow' has any other meaning I'm not aware*)

Basically, if you ranked the youkai in the school according to how powerful they actually are instead of their official position, then this youkai would be #2. The meaning is like "shadow government", if you're familiar with that term.

Well, I'm sure the translation group working on this will figure it all out.

So are these just a bunch of random weird supernatural separate stories like Hell Girl or something like that? Cos if that's the case, it just seems meh to me.

I still think it guarantees us that Ryukishi07 can still write good things.

Say, they don't ever reveal the actual name of the school, or what kind of school it is, do they (like an elementary, middle, or high school)? I don't even think they reveal when the story takes place, if it's not some generic "modern" setting.

Began my slow but sure reading with a limited knowledge of Japanese and shoddy translations yesterday. Filling in the blanks hasn't been that bad for me yet, and I must say that this book has given me mixed feelings so far.

From what I've read so far, I can't say it's bad. At all. In fact, I'm probably going to think it's a great read and be excited for the next comiket to come so I can get my hands on the second one...

My problem, though, personally is that I can't really say I love it as much as I loved the first book of Umineko (as of yet, as bear in mind I've only read about a half an hour's worth of this story while reading at a snail's pace with translations.)

Yes, this is probably going to be a great book and I'll absolutely love it by the time I finish it, I'm sure. However, the departure from the last few years of mystery that was Umineko is a bit saddening for me, as I was entirely absorbed by Umineko from episode 1. I thought it was a straight out fantastic mystery for a very long time. I still think that it did fantastically as a mystery until... Well, episode 8 when it was clear that Ryukishi's strong point was NOT detective fiction.

It's just saddening that Higanbana isn't going to absorb me as a mental challenge like Umineko did. Even though this is also a relief considering I'm not going to feel like I need to analyze every single line of text as I read it.

Now... Comparing this to Higurashi? I'm pretty sure I'll like it just about as much, if not more considering I'm not a diehard fan of Higurashi.

Anyway, I hope I can discuss this game with some of the other people who have read it once I finish.

Could someone please divulge the plot summaries of "鎮守神さまの祠" (The Tutelary God's Shrine), "ハメルンのカスタネット" (Hameln's Castanets), and "とある少女の一日" (One Day for a Certain Girl)?
