We need a native German speaker, but translated roughly from my basic German:
I imagine it's not proper, but it works well enough. I found the Engrish to be more pain-inducing than the German

I disliked Perrine when she was introduced in Strike Witches: her growth throughout the series was what made her character so interesting to behold, so I would imagine that Kanno could see similar growth. Give it time to build her character into one that's less disagreeable

Everything is fine and dandy with those labels... except the use of Macht.
Machtknopf is a very lazy translation for power button. (The correct word would be a very simple "An-/Aus Schalter" (on & off switch)) Macht is power, that is correct. But it is more like... force, might, influence... political power. Not energy. I laught so hard because it feels for me like a button that can give you instant political power.

Episode 4 one-week delay further confirmed; O.V.A. OVA episode 1 will be shown in its place (though maybe not on Crunchyroll).

It took me a bit to realize that Kanno actually spent the whole episode deliberately playing the antagonist in order to push Hikari into trying harder.
Concentration of power. I suspected something like this was essential after her "crossing the sea" worked when she started using smaller magic circles. Hikari doesn't have any power to spare at all, so if she doesn't focus on using it in the most efficient way possible things don't work. So her magic eyes only work after coming into physical contact with a Neuroi? Definitely a dangerous variety, but not one I would dismiss entirely. I suspect it's just that Hikari is still too new to combat that they view is too dangerous for her, personally, to try to touch each Neuroi they fight. Oh, and it may just be me, but it felt like there was less of the blatant CG stuff in this episode... or perhaps they did a better job of masking it.

Ep 04
Holy smokes. Hikari is a monster in terms of physical strength and endurance! Hanging upside down with her feet attached to the towers and then pulling herself upright with her legs and lower body strength, and then climbing straight up the tower using only her hands? And she's what ... 14 or so? Crazy. (Maybe she assisted herself with magic or something?) All in all another good episode. It was so nice to see her able to use her striker unit when she got into the habit of focusing her admittedly lower magic reserves and being able to contribute directly and immediately to the 502nd! Now. Hopefully we will get to learn about more of the 502nd members....

That was solid. And a good way to bring balance to Hikari without making her unable to take part in this at all. Seems like the show is going to avoid having to power her up too much. In the end she's going to be without anywhere near the power everyone else has. The type that will have to use everything she has properly in order to keep up.
Makes each fight a bit of a daredevil exercise. If she has to put everything into her legs to fly properly then she's cutting her magic just about everywhere else. Which means she really can't make much use of her shields. At least she can't use them while she's actively trying to maneuver. Maybe if she's stopping and hovering she can block a few shots, but only so much magic to go around. Hikari can't handle long distance shooting so she'll have to get in close so her inability to support her shooting with magic won't be a problem. Props to Kanno. Did her job to antagonize Hikari to get to the top. If she doesn't think about her physical exhaustion then she can get things done. Certainly became a valuable friend for Hikari to have. Pushed the right buttons when was needed.

Human-Neuroi contact has been extremely rare to this point, not counting magical physical attacks of the sort that Francesca Lucchini and Kanno Naoe perform, or Reppumaru doing... what it does. The implication seemed to be that it was extremely dangerous to do that in the first place. But then Spoiler for movie spoiler:

They're using CG for even the characters during fight scenes, right? And it alternates with key animation from time to time, yes?
So far, I didn't find the difference too glaring thus it's alright for me. Looks like the writing's a little deeper this time round. Hikari won't get it easy anytime, and Rossmann was able to direct her properly. Now, that's what I call a good sensei. |
