Especially not after a powerful Sunni supporter has changed side. His regime's structure is now seriously crumbling.

Syria premier defects to opposition:
"Syria's prime minister fled the country on Monday, denouncing the "terrorist regime" of Bashar al-Assad as the United States hailed the highest level government defection as a sign the Syrian president was losing his grip. Riyad Hijab, who like much of the opposition comes from Syria's Sunni Muslim majority, was not part of Assad's inner circle, but as prime minister and the most senior civilian official to defect his departure dealt a symbolic blow to an establishment rooted in the president's minority Alawite sect. Opposition figures, buoyant despite setbacks in recent heavy fighting around Damascus and Aleppo, spoke of an extensive and long-planned operation to spirit not just Hijab but numerous members of his extended family across the Jordanian border." Over 2,000 Syrians Including One General Flee to Turkey:
"Over 2,000 Syrians, including one defecting general, fled to Turkey on Thursday after a Syrian air strike on the northern rebel bastion of Aazaz in northern Syria, a Turkish diplomat said Friday. The latest group of 2,204 people brought the number of Syrian refugees in Turkey to more than 62,000, the diplomat told AFP on condition of anonymity." Syrian opposition fighters acquire Stinger missiles: sources:
"The Free Syrian Army has acquired surface-to-air Stinger missiles but they have not been used yet, a source in the Syrian opposition told Al Arabiya. The U.S.-based source said the missiles were not used against the Syrian Army fighter jet downed last Monday. The source said it was shot down by anti-aircraft guns." U.S., allies girding for worst-case scenario with Syria's WMD :
"During a week that witnessed deadly artillery exchanges between Syria and Turkey and a tense showdown over a plane purportedly ferrying munitions from Russia, the arrival of 150 U.S. troops in Jordan was likely to be viewed as token support for an ally coping with a refugee influx from Syria's civil war. The deployment, though, may be a response to mounting concerns at the Pentagon and among European and Middle East allies that Syria's stockpile of chemical weapons could fall into the hands of hostile forces if the embattled regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad is eventually toppled. U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta disclosed little about the special-forces mission to Jordan when he confirmed it at a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels on Wednesday. But he noted that the United States has been working closely with Jordan to keep track of Syria's weapons of mass destruction as the 19-month-old rebellion grinds on." I am starting to stop caring about WMDs.
Seriously, there had been a few events like the Sarin Gas in Japan, but in the end it is no more deadly than bombs and planes filled with jet fuel. There is just no incentive to use unconventional weapons for terrorism. Like the Joker, terrorists are men and women of simple tastes; explosives, liquid fuel, and bullets. And as for nukes... There is no motive to use them for terrorism. It's too much work compared to the likes of the London bombing. Even dirty bombs are not worth the time. And as for used against the US army? That's just about useless. BC defence comes standard these days. The word "WMD" is now meaningless and used only to scare people.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halabja_poison_gas_attack If Assad tries something similar to suppress the Syrian rebellion, it's gonna be one helluva mess. There's also a chance that Islamic radicals might get their hands on some of that stuff when the Syrian government finally collapses. Which could also be one helluva mess. |

Sure, it's a warcrime. But so is water-boarding. Americans don't care about war crimes any more. This is actually terrorism working as intended; Terrorists win not by killing civilians, but by making civilians so frightened that they destroy their own principles and cause a collapse in society. Like agreeing to indefinite detention without trial or torture. Americans are OKAY with it, because they have been brainwashed by Terrorists. Terrorists have already won. BC weapons are not easy to use properly. And the effort required is not worth the result compared to conventional stuff. Asymmetrical war is always about doing as much damage as you can, as cheaply as you can. Your fear of BC is unjustified when you are more likely to get blown up by IEDs or just shot by a sniper.
