Piano Forest

Quote:
NHK's official website announced on Monday that Makoto Isshiki's Piano no Mori (The Piano Forest) manga is getting a television anime adaptation that will air on NHK in April 2018. This year's 48th issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine is revealing more details on Thursday, including the show's official website and Twitter account.
Plot Summary
Quote:
The manga follows two boys from different walks of life. Kai was born the son of a prostitute and learned to play an abandoned piano in the forest by his home. Shūhei is child of two prestigious pianists. The two boys end up meeting through their one common thread: music.

I've read this series before and quite excited about this one. Knew it was coming someday ever since the movie premiered years ago. NHK can make this work especially since the series is completed.

Also, apparently each main pianist character in the competition is also going to have their own personal performer:
YouTube
Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?
They went out of their way to find pianists who could be real-life versions of the characters: a handsome Chinese pianist, a cute blond Polish pianist, and a beautiful French pianist. Plus real Japanese kid pianists.

Some additional cast:
Ichinose Reiko: Sakamoto Maaya
Pan Wei: Nakamura Yuuichi
Lech Szymanowski: KENN
Sophie Ormesson: Ise Mariya
Karl Adams: Konishi Katsuyuki
Hirata Kousei: Toyonaga Toshiyuki
Saga Takeshi: Yusa Kouji

(I guess the Korean twins will sit this adaptation out...)

Also, for some reason I just realized that this was going to be on NHK. Maybe the two cours of Classicaloid were leading up to this? (I hope it'll be followed up by a 3rd season of Classicaloid, that show is way too much fun to end.)

Dammit Netflix, why not just release episodes on a weekly basis? You did it for Violet Evergarden (well, in the UK) so why not just do that thing and not sit on it for months so most people who wanted to watch it will run out of patience and fly the ol' jolly roger, Jim lad!

I mean, I subscribe to Netflix, they've already got my money, and if they were showing this in real time then that is how I would watch it.

This also kills most chances of a buzz about a show or discussion.

So with the skull and crossbones flying, my trusty parrot on my shoulder and my best Robert Newton impression in hand, I watched the first episode anyway. Yep, I want to see more of that. I really liked it. Though while I know he didn't write it I still associate 'Little Brown Jug' with Glenn Miller (my mum was a big fan, had records, and insisted we all watch "The Glenn Miller Story" every time it came on TV).

I normally don't harp soon animation (grew up watching anime from the 70/80s) but the animation is really off putting in a noticable way. The way their bodies and hands moved felt really off

Otherwise looks interesting and can't wait to see what musically works they'll use

is why this is different from Devilman Crybaby, the anime has a production committee, and TV has priority in that.

I sort of agree. The animation is off during the piano sequences. It's very very noticeable when the style changes. It almost looks too fluid, and not quite representative of how pianists actually play and move.

Nevertheless, I'm intrigued by the piano in the forest and why Kai is so special. Will be watching this series.

Interesting info about this show...

It's getting a break and returning for a second season next year around Winter. It's basically planned for multiple cours at the moment.
