No, they do--it certainly wasn't the main engine spitting those particles sideways when the wings were fully spread in the Freedom's iconic pose. Those same particles being expelled by the Strike Freedom's Super DRAGOONs. So there's definitely thrusters in the Freedom's wings.

You were stating that Kira spread the wings(using himat mode) in space a lot as a way saying it helps in space and not just an atmospheric mode.

Just stating that spreading them in space helps with the distribution of thrust even if the wings are worthless since they can't produce lift in space. Now that I know Freedom had thrusters in the wings, it also gives a logical explanation why Kira used HiMat mode in space in Freedom. Also, proves HiMat mode is effective in space as well.

Actually, I think they are from the Freedom's back thrusters. Strike Freedom also has the same particles even with the DRAGOONs attached.

After episode 36, it looks quite surprising that Cagalli didn't grab a mass-produced M1 Astray.
You know, she is wearing the stupid uniform running around in highly critical military facilities,
her uniform is not anything formal except for selling cute. She even commands the defense force.
The point is she doesn't have a rank in the Orb force, and even there's a right for
commanding it is only Asuha who has it, and it seems very unlikely he use Cagalli as a proxy.
Again, what she was wearing is not formal (maybe until she claimed her power in Destiny),
and she doesn't have a rank. But to the basic as she was abusing power like Char does
she could just grab a M1 and pretend to be Athrun or Kira anyway.

It still looked like as there was discretion at what the character should do among the animators
at this point, so it turns out to be a ambiguous scenario.

Eh, it's Anime. Of course it isn't formal, she's a cute girl so she gets to be cute even when being a badass. Just ignore the little things like that and enjoy the series.

How come Mu La Flaga wasn't considered for the G-Project? He has to be one of, if not the best pilot the Earth Alliance has by the start of the series.

They mentioned that Mwu was too high profile, they were trying to keep the G Project a secret but that didn't turn out. That and he's one of the few left that can use the Mobius Zero and it was, at that time, the only effectively unit against the Mobile Suits and later Gundams.
