Considering becoming a Death Scythe is the goal of all weapons, "sickle" is just out there. The only reason I can see them going for it is because it's easier for the VA's (which is an awful reason).

They still use the term Death Scythe in the trailer. They only used the word sickle when refering to Maka's combant expertise.

My point is, "scythe" is a key word in the series, there's no good reason to not use it with regards to Maka's concentration.

And I don't know of any bad reasons for saying sickle; Do they even say scythe specialist at all in the actual show? Its not uncommon to call someone a sickle specialist when it comes to using a sickle/scythe/sickle sword or any sickle related weapon for combat, because as I stated before a scythe is like a sub tool in the sickle category. A scythe is basically nothing more than an refurnished sickle. For instance most probably wouldn't call someone weilding a hatchet for a weapon a hatchet specialist, they'd probably refer to that person as a axe specialist. A hatchet is a related tool to an axe just like a scythe is a related tool to a sickle.

I just really can't see how this would be some catastrophic happening. It makes no difference to me really since both terms make perfect sense. I guess it all boils down to if you want an absolute perfect translation or not.

...Oh, and I think that they should just call him "The Grim Reaper", seeing how, y'know, that's who he is.

But yeah, the trailer was awful. I couldn't watch past the first minute either.

However, I don't think that was FUNimation's doing. It seems like a trailer that was pitched out by the Japanese to help pitch the series to foreign territories. Having seen some of TMS's Trailers, this is very similar. The trailer is marked "Japanese Trailer" too and there seems to be the fact that FUNimation's name is not located on the trailer at all.

So take that as you may...

...Although, I will agree with guys that it was pretty terrible. ^^''
Now that's a damn good point! I don't even recognize that voice over to be one of FUNi's regulars.

For anyone that doesn't get it, this is NOT FUNI's trailer.

This was made by Media Factory or whoever that owns Soul Eater as a generic pitch. FUNI doesn't even have a cast for the show yet.

At least it's not Ocean Dub. They can't do a decent dub unless it has 50 F*cks in it.

If there's one good thing about licensing, it's the merchandising that goes along with it...

I hope FUNimation tries to keep as much of the original puns and terms from the series.

Especially Crona's gender. The authors go to fairly strong extents to make it clear that they are making Crona's gender ambiguous, it would be a shame if a dub decided to assign a gender to Crona just to make it easier to write the script.
Screwed up term and fact changes always make for annoying discussions when working on a wiki.

No, their trailers are always incredibly cheesy and misrepresentative of the dubs they actually produce.
QFT!

Also, I read somewhere on the net, that trailer was made to promote the series in NA and not done personally by Funimation anyway.

they could make the voice actor for Black Star the same one as for Naruto....
That's pretty much impossible considering she works for a rival company, Viz annnnd she's doing NARUTO'S VOICE! Naruto is t he biggest show in NA meaning she's constantly dubbing the episodes of that show+videogame+ occasional promotional tours. She probably doesnt have time for anything else.

Whether the dub turns out well or not...it has a MUCH better chance of turning out great w/Funi considering this is the EXACT type of show they're known for doing and doing a great job dubbing. Yuyu Hakusho anyone??

If that is the case they really should go out of business or hire people that can actually do a proper trailer. What major company seriously gets away with that kinda stuff now a-days(and makes money)?

well...that trailer was....um...interesting...

I love Funimation, I was hoping that they'd get this series! But now, I just wonder which VAs they are gonna use. Anyone know when that info will be released? I'm a big fan of Vic Mignogna, but I'm not sure which of the character's his voice would fit with...I actually like a lot of the VAs Funimation has, they've never dissapointed me^^ I dont feel like listing all their VAs, but I think I'd be happy with any of them, as long as they fit the role well.

I'm not gonna call it or anything, but Funimation tends to use Monica Rial or Luci Christian as the female leads...I also love both of them, they do great work, as far as I've seen. Any thoughts on either of them playing Maka?

Monica Rial could get Maka, but I could actually see Luci Christian doing Black Star haha.

Im kinda hoping Vic won't be involved.. or at least not do any of the main characters.. more like Kidd in particular. While i wouldn't say hes a bad voice actor, im just really sick of him getting all the roles of popular characters just because he has a big fanbase.

I agree with you there! Maka ---> Monica Rial and Luci Christian ---> Black Star I'd be fine with that! Christian plays a boy just as well as a girl: ex----> Kotaro from Papuwa, that was a great dub in general actually.

Well, I'll be honest, I do want to see Vic in this series, but I dont think he fits Kidd very well. I understand what you mean, but I personally dont mind seeing him in the many roles he has. But each to their own!

pretty much, yeah

I recently bought Ouran Host Club by Funi, and Vic was the voice of Tamaki. I really hope they try to mix it up because in the japanese version, Tamaki and Kid as well as Haruhi and Chrona have the same VA's. Actually, I'd like to see the VA for Kyoya play Kid.

As much as I like Vic, I really don't think he'd suit any of the main characters. Death the Kid needs a deeper voice than Vic's (even if he is only 14). I agree with ragweed on this one...maybe Kyouya's VA would be good for Kid. At least someone similar (although if it's Greg Ayers, I'll squeal like a stupid little fangirl...highly unlikely he'd be the right person for it though.)

I think Greg Ayres is more suited for the role of Soul than anyone else, though it's likely they may give the role to someone else.

Colleen Clinkenbeard is probably the best choice for the voice of Black Star.

As for Death the Kid, ..... is Justin Cook still doing voice-over work?
