Being forced to read American Gods (Neil Gaiman) by a book club. I was hoping we would be doing The Towers of Trebizond, but I'm not much of a fan of Rose Macaulay anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Also reading Makai by Kathlyeen Tyau, and Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein.

Makai's pidgin dialogue takes a bit of getting used to, but Alice Lum is so sincere and her plight with her husband's holey boxers is just so hilarious, that I can't help but march onwards.

Heinlein is great at what he does: No complaints from me.

- Paris in the Twentieth Century by Junes Verne. It's amazing to see that he alluded to some modern technological things that were invented decades after that.

- Oeuvres Morales Tome 10. On Moralia - Dialogue on Love and Love Stories by Plutarch. :thumb:

The last two books I've read were The Immoralist by Andre Gide and The Crown of Life by George Gissing. They were all right, but nothing awesome. :/

I usually read anything to do with the Classics, but its an acquired taste. As George Orwell once said: “I doubt whether classical education ever has been or can be successfully carried out without corporal punishment.”

Speaking of speculative fiction just got done with Snow Crash('92) and The Diamond Age('95) by Neal Stephenson. Man's a genius. Foresaw a lot of the stuff that's going on today, even if he didn't get all of it right.

And speaking of education, especially schools, rote learning, Diamond Age. It's great, except for an inconclusive ending.

I just finished Terry Pratchett's Witches Abroad. I've been interested in the Discworld series since I started surfing through the TV Tropes Wiki (lol), but it's the first time I actually got my hand on a book from the series.

His writing style is good: entertaining and satirical. He's also the first fiction writer I've ever read who actually uses footnotes in a novel, hmm.

I know my entrance into the series is quite haphazard, beginning with a book in the middle from who-knows-where (it's one of the two books from the series my uni library carries -- what, are they thinking this series is lacking in literary value compared to the thousand throwaway critical essays on Alice in Wonderland or something?), so would any Discworld veteran kindly recommend where should I properly start to get the full experience?

I'm in college and it's near the finals now so the only books I read everyday are for school. Don't wanna bore anyone out so I'll just list some authors. John Polkinghorne, Stanley Milgram, Michio Kaku, Amir Aezel, Dirac, Rupert Cox. Basically some books on Einstein, Quantum Theory, Philosophy of Science, Social Psychology and Japan.

.... I shouldn't have said that. Now everyone's asleep.

Ahhh, so envious of those who read for leisure. One more month and I'll have the time to do that!

I got a few books I plan to read or have become interested in but I dont really have enough discipline to read them. TToTT

The books are: Rereading Eragon and Eldest just before reading Brisingr, Tom Clancy's Balance of Power, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (started/jumping around), The Time Machine, Lord of the Flies, To Kill A Mockingbird (started), Jane Eyre, LotR and Tom Jones (someday)...
Books I've become interested in don't own: The Brass Verdict, Storm Front, Forever War, Accidental Time Machine, Midnight Sun (which is postponed indefinately T_T; read part of the draft, and what I read wasnt great T_T), Mark Twain's work, Sunday's at Tiffany's, Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, the Anita Blake and Southern Vampire Mysteries series.

I also like comics, so what I want to read are: Sinestro Corps War, Civil War, TFU, Star Wars: Legacy, anything centered around the Red Hulk, and the upcoming GL: Blackest Night.

I've also got a lineup of anime to watch, which I also havent gotten to because of my lack of discipline. -__-''

I just finished another reread of American Pyscho. I forgot how disturbing the book really is.

Probably going to reread Pet Semetary again next also.

Hehe I agree No Longer Human was a brilliant book.

Reading The Godfather, I can say it's a wonderful read, can't wait to finish the saga.

Planning: Setting Sun and Kokoro

For pleasure I've been reading the Malazan Books of the Fallen series by Steven Erickson. Very good books.

For school I've been reading mostly stuff for my Japanese Literature and Film: Seminar class. Tale of Genji, Tale of the Heike, Noh plays of various subject matter. Different stuff like that.
