Liked this one. Very atmospheric for the moment, though the next episode looks more conventional. Entirely forgot about the premise until the ending. (I was wondering how they would deal with sepsis and eventual gangrene.)

Interesting that it's an NHK show. Their shows don't have any ecchi material, but that doesn't make them "childish" at all. 3-gatsu no Lion and Kemono no Sou-ja Erin are prime examples.

Definitely the best premiere of the season alongside of Megalo Box Nomad.

Also I'm not going to lie I did get some The Thing vibe when the imitation wolf arrived at the remote village although the vibe did quickly disappear.

This season, this show so far is the only real competition to Megalo Box 2: Nomad.

And here starts feels the anime. The first chapter of this manga tore me up inside, and is one of the main reasons I've continued with the manga even though it's started to go downhill for me since the last arc.

This was a sad first chapter but it seems interesting enough.

That was good, but sad at the same time. If the sad theme continues I might not be able to continue though

The vibe I got was closest to that of Dororo and Hyakkimaru, somehow.

That might have just been the saddest first episode of an anime series I've ever seen. They've accomplished so much in just 25 minutes. I knew since the beginning the boy, whose name we never even found out, was going to die and yet it still hit me. He led such a tragic and lonely life.

I wonder just how much of what happened the orb understood.

I knew pretty much the entire plot of this episode ahead of time and it still managed to hit me in the end. This was one of the series I was looking forward to the most this season and the first episode delivered.

the depiction of loneliness was so strong.
Poor boy.
Wonder if the directional markers were also graves of people that died along the way.

I believe they were just directional markers since the actual graves had a different design. You can see them back at the village, and the ones the boy finds among the wreckage.

Well that was depressing. I mean good on them, they certainly accomplished what they were going for here. Not sure if it was more or less sad to realize halfway through the episode that this kid was going to die. Suppose it's nice in a way that he died without realizing that the wolf he was attached to had itself already died days earlier.

Strong stuff there to be sure. It might be a bit too heavy to watch weekly, but pretty sure I'll keep up with it over time.
