One assumes he will be the Obi-wan/Yoda role from the first set of films. Though I see the chance he might become more active until whoever his student is (rumors suggest the main character will be a young woman he trains to be a Jedi). The other possibility is that he could become the Darth Vader or Emperor role of the trilogy.
It is also possibly there are two Lukes. You have the one we saw in Return of the Jedi, that was the last of the Jedi and has an artificial hand. And then there is the possible second Luke, a clone made from his lost hand by the Emperor, It was used in story before, but those are made non-canon now...so they could just use it to make Luke both the light and dark side of the Force.

I think an evil Luke is too much after having seen what Anakin became. Training a female apprentice seems interesting as I enjoyed Anakin and Ahsoka's interactions. Then again, their personalities are different and Luke would be much older than Anakin was.

Timothy Zahn, Aaron Allston, etc. aren't going to like this one bit.... Well, hopefully the Expanded Universe IS rebooted then maybe they won't kill off Mara Jade in the dumbest way possible next time...

Depending on if she even exists at all.
Mind you the older writers can get their stuff back in via things like Rebels and the various spin off films that are suppose to come out between the Trilogy movies. Just they'll need to conform to whatever has happened in the Star Wars universe since Return of the Jedi.

But, yeah, I've been irked by the destruction of a lot of rich history of the EU. The EU was not perfect, but it had a lot of great parts. What drove me nuts about The Clone Wars, probably Rebels, and probably the new movies is that they somehow managed to take the best EU ideas and ruin them in every conceivable way possible.

The title could also be referring to the force "awakening" within a character or set of characters. It could be the case that without the jedi order large numbers of people stumble on the force in an untrained manner...

Look, the EU wasn't uniformly great, and for a lot of EU books being invalidated is no great loss to any of us.
...Having said that, I wish they'd filmed the Thrawn Trilogy somehow.

As for the trailer, hard to judge basing only on this, but I'm not positive about it. And Crosssaber? Please...all I wanted is to see Nihilus on a big screen. |

Actually it felt like they're trying to emphasize, "Hey, hear that instrumental complexity? That's not Hans Zimmer, it's good old John Williams! This IS Star Wars if you didn't get it already."

To each his own. I did say that it still was just a teaser anyway. My mind can change once we see more. But don't get me wrong, I'm still hyped. Just a bit skeptical is all

Guy thinks he needs a guard that will stop another lightsaber?
I finally see how the new X-wings have thin wings. They split front and back rather than top and bottom. Couldn't see that in the Abbrams charity aid. The political situation will take some getting use to. We can assume the Empire is still around, as is what was the Rebel Alliance. However we can't be certain of their rolls at this point. Those TIE's were old style. Might not even be Imperial. Could be pirates or local defense fighters for all we know. It could also be that the Rebel Alliance took over after the war but, like the Empire before it, kept the old military equipment. Remember that the starting form of the Imperial Navy and the Stormtroopers were Republic ships and Clone Troopers from the Clone Wars. The New Republic (or whatever it may be called) could have kept the stormtroopers and other bits while also keeping new models of X-wings for long range missions (the TIEs have no hyperdrives).

The hilt could be made of phrik or Mandalorian iron. Both are lightsaber resistant without having the ability to shut down a lightsaber like Cortosis.
At which point the light guards are to make the hilt smaller.
