Episode 1:

Well this reminded me a bit of Long Riders. Even some of the character personalities feels the same and the segments with the food. Pretty natural way for them to do the storytelling so far with cute girls and bikes.

Maiharu is cute so far, seems like the type that can easily make friends with others. With Long Riders (not returning until next month), I think could be a fun ride. The theme songs are kinda catchy imo. Visual looks okay, not too impressive though.

I found it extremely colorful, thanks to the excellent backgrounds. It helps that I've visited the actual city, so I can recognize the landmarks and the general structure...

This episode mostly set ups the story, it'll probably take at least another one to have more of the actual club cast.

I didn't really like the live action "documentary" though.

Ep 01

Count me in among those who thought the backgrounds were absolutely beautiful! J.C. Staff really did a nice job in that respect in my opinion.

As for the first ep itself, when the characters first got to the beach I immediately thought of Tari Tari, and sure enough Kamakura is one of the cities the series takes place in.

First episode was fine in general, will give the next episode a try as well.

After watching 6 minutes of it, I can already tell Long Riders was much better.

Seriously, forgetting how to ride a bike? Who does that? (As a side note, I've done the "cycling again after years of not doing it" bit... twice! And I bloody well didn't forget.)

So I thought "How is this show going to differentiate itself from 'Long Riders'?*"
Well, it's way prettier. The show's scenery had some particularly gorgeous moments.

Other than that I think I'll be giving this a few more episodes to see how it takes. The fact it's a high school rather than college means it's going to be more a 'school club' show than the 'group of friends' which Long Riders was, so a different dynamic might also help to differentiate it.

*Would it be uncharitable to say also this show is more likely to finish on time?

...How can one be such an airhead as to forget how a bike works to the point of not even remembering how to pedal it? Even Ami knew how to ride a bike for crying out loud!

Backgrounds are very pretty, I admit.

Hiromi, please get a grip. Worrying that you might have trouble making friends... ok, that's not too bad, even though you already made one who is sitting right next to you. But getting depressed about the idea and plotting out your future into becoming a hikikomori is way too much.

Yeah, I don't know. Logically there should be nothing offensive about this show. From a production standpoint it looks very nice. But Hiromi having once learned to ride a bike (training wheels not withstanding) only to have forgotten absolutely everything about how they work in the intervening time destroyed my ability to engage with her as a character. And nothing else she did allowed me to regain that connection. As a consequence, instead of finding her cute or funny (as I'm sure I'm supposed to), I find her vaguely annoying and unrelatable. Which in turn makes me sad, because I shouldn't feel that way. Looking at it objectively, this isn't a bad show so far. But it lost me right in its first impression, and now it's going to have to work two or three times as hard to make up for that.

I suspect I wouldn't be having as much of a problem with this if Long Riders hadn't just been airing last season. Despite the fact that this show clearly has all of the production values that I wish that show could have had, Long Riders succeeded in being an engaging show about a girl getting into cycling. And it pulled it off right from the first episode.

I'm not going to abandon this: I realize I'm almost certainly judging it unfairly, and I want to give it a chance to fix the first impression it gave me. But right now it has its work cut out for it.

It looks really good, but that's pretty much all it has going for it. Long Rider's first episode was so much better. It properly establishing Ami's desire to change and improve herself by getting into cycling, and even had some proper cycling in it too. This show, on the other hand, wasted almost half the episode with the main character unrealistically failing to even get on the bike properly, and it didn't introduce any interesting hook either. I kinda lost interest after that.

Still, I will give it the customary three episodes. It could still surprise me.

Episode 1

J.C Staff's version of Long Riders. At least we can expect this one to air within this season lol.

The only thing I was expecting from this was good use of colors. And I got that. The backgrounds were pretty good too. It has some nice overall artwork. Though Hiromi and Tomo are only part-time cute. There were some nice moments here and there. Overall a somewhat fun episode. Better than most of the day's shows. I'll give it another episode or two.

They both are, in my opinon (also I feel that people would have judged Long Riders in a harsher way if Actas kept the fan service from the original manga in).

And for tourism, well Kamakura is pretty much a good tourist spot, so I don't see the issue. The only thing I found out of place was the live action part.

episode 2 was the same, decent light heartedness.

Show seems to be made in part as a tourism anime to promote the area its set in.

Is there a difference for girl bikes other than height I guess? shape of the seats?

Well, the OP theme is my favorite this season, and I'm exactly into this kind of anime (I also had fun watching Long Riders), so yay :3

Episode 2

There is some nice animation in the opening sequence and the OP and ED are good enough. That's about the only thing good enough here. The rest is pretty meh. Not sure about the next episode though. I should cut down on animes I'm watching each day otherwise I won't be able to catch up with the older shows I'm watching.

Yay! Another girls cycling anime!!! Seems like this one is set in a real town and they've done their homework on representing the scenery well.

The real life segments at the end remind me of Hikaru no Go's teachings. Perhaps this is meant to spur more female riders in Japan? At any rate, like Long Riders, I'll be following this anime!

Also, perhaps some of you can answer this question for me. We've now had two anime adaptations of the same subject in back to back seasons. What/who determines when the animes air and is there concern for over saturation of the same subject in a short period of time?
